Just curious, what what’s the purpose of the pipe and vent hole exiting the chimney. Since you’ve already contacted a mason about the various repairs were you given a price for each? #3 would be the most expensive but it is for a chimney you don’t use.

I would go for option 3, in case you want to use the chimney and also for resale.

Thank you all!! I was thinking #3 sounded best but #2 is the reputable company (not that 3 isn’t but they aren’t located in my town and everyone seems to talk highly of #2 so I was surprised they’d didn’t have the same suggestion)

@jrb451 the pip is for a wood burning stove. The previous owner put that in so we can’t use the chimney until we take that out. We really don’t expect to use either.

OK, so one’s for air intake and the other exhaust/smoke. They could have accomplished that without piercing the outside of the chimney. Curious as to why this approach was chosen? Money, perhaps.

Unfortunately, there are not many masonry contractors who do chimney restorations or major repairs nowadays. If you find a contractor who is willing to do the job, follow @millworkman suggestion and do a complete overhaul because doing a bandaid here and there will only get worse over time.

Have you asked the no 2 company that is so highly thought of? They may do it too.

Their price was significantly more so I’m leaning to #3 as I’m guessing this option would just increase #2s price.
