Pella Patio doors cost

I’m at the beginning stages of adding patio doors in place of a picture window in a 40 year old addition in our 1925 bungalow. I’m looking at Anderson and Pella. Has anyone purchased directly from Pella? Can I get a better price by negotiating with our local Pella dealer? I’m leaning towards pella because of the brown exterior color. I would have to upgrade the Anderson door increasing the cost to get the brown. Here is what I’m looking at.

I ahve no idea about either saving or not by buying yourself. As for the pricing that is always regional . I prefer to do one stop shopping when this type of work is done . The contractor who does the install orders the doors and if wrong he is to blame no passing the buck. I guess get a price and then see what the contractor quotes we have no idea.

We did Pella windows and sliding doors in the brown color. We aren’t in the house. We didn’t get a discount from ordering direct from Pella that I know of. But so far, im happy with them. The color is great for us.

Pella is a poor product quite honestly and I would reconsider using them for windows or doors.

We've had a good experience with our Pella windows and doors installed in our 2005 remodel but the price! Ouch!

I had a previous home with Pella sliding glass doors. One issue was that Pella is unique in that its sliding glass doors have the screen door on the inside rather than on the outside. I detested this arrangement. If you have pets they will jump onto those screen doors and ruin them. It also allowed leaf and dirt debris to accumulate between the screen door and the glass door. I would never buy a Pella sliding glass door again for this reason. Also, Pella's customer service is the worst.

As to your question about buying windows/doors direct from the manufacturer. This is problematic for a couple reasons. One reason is that ordering windows is complicated - you have to know the exact product codes and the various aspects particular to your order to place a correct order. One small thing wrong, and the whole sliding glass door is wrong. Another reason is that the good installers won't install doors/windows purchased by homeowners. It is too fraught with problems and errors. It is much better to hire a high-quality windows contractor, have them measure and purchase the windows/doors, and it is their responsibility for the measuring and ordering.

Go to a good, local lumber yard (not big box) and see what they have. They can also be a good source for installers.

We recently got Therma-Tru French doors and are very happy with them. IMO French doors are more elegant than sliders, if they work in your set up. Marvin and Kolbe are also good brands.
