My builder uses Houzz Pro to plan the timeline and give detailed estimates and daily updates with photos of progress, and provide invoices at pre-agreed key points in the build. This made the whole experience much more efficient and stress-free.

Tiny laundry/ kitchenette

The kitchen in this NYC coop studio apartment was a Willy Wonka acid trip. We got permission to add laundry (score!) and also use it as a kitchenette for my husband’s office/guest room. Thanks everyone on Houzz for answer the million questions I had along the way! Your reality checks preserved my sanity.

KITCHEN BEFORE





Yes, there is a window on that yellow wall behind all the shelves and heads. You can see the steam pipe in the after pics too.


LAUNDRY KITCHENETTE AFTER



Vanilla Corian and Farrow and Ball white tie are a near match.


The table is Corian and I added walnut legs.


We got the chandelier at a flea market for $5 and had it restored.


The door opens out and behind it, on the outside we hung an old fashioned servant’s bell system. It confuses and intrigues our guests and we love it!

    OMG @Paul F. that IS my chandelier. It is solid brass, made in France, and the person who restored it said it was valuable. I love that I didn't pay almost $3,000 for it. Can't wait to show my husband. He'll flip. Thanks!

      Yikes! Acid trip on steroids!

      Wonderful transformation! Kudos for getting laundry approval. I know what a big deal that is in NYC. Oh, and for scoring the valuable chandelier, for almost nil. Beautiful find!

      The thing that looks like a regular white fridge is a stacked washer-dryer. I think the fridge is the shiny thing that looks like a tv above the flat oven.

      Yes, the laundry is an LG washtower stacked unit. We had to widen the door to be able to get it in, that that’s how tiny this place is! There is a minifridge above the microwave.

      Thanks La la girl. My dog still has PTSD from the crazy town before and is afraid to hang out in the studio. When we bring him over he spends the whole time standing by the door waiting to leave! Clearly he is not sold on the tranquil after vibe.

      Stunning transformation, so calm, pretty and super functional given the size of the space you had to work with. Did you by chance call Ghost Busters after all those 'heads and skulls' were removed. I can understand your pups reluctance...;-)

      Wowza! That is some transformation! Congratulations on seeing the possibilities underneath all that voodoo, etc., paraphernalia. And a great score on that chandelier. You have a good eye!

      I like the before, too, as an art piece, really impractical. But the after is great. I see you were able to vent out through the top of the sash.

      @Palimpsest If you have a hankering you can see more of the former owner's her artwork here. Yes, we built an enclosure around the exhaust and put it out the top of the window. I hugged the machine when it was installed.
