What color should we do the roof for this house?

Hi folks,

Do you think the new roof color works? Or should i make it darker?

Wanted to get peoples opinion on the new roof color (gray & white) that we will use across the full roof. The new part will be painted yellow stucco as well and so will the gutters. Its hard to compare with the new part not being painted.

Both light and dark grey will work, it’s a personal choice. I would prefer to see a darker grey that ties in the colour of the darker shutters. The high contrast between the light yellow and dark grey would be striking.

I like the roof but I am not wild about the yellow. I think you need to pull colors from the stone, and maybe use yellow at the front door.

maybe the dark gray portion (of the new side). Get rid of the patchiness and make it all dark gray

What is your climate? Lighter roofs will keep you cooler, darker roofs will keep you warmer. Which do you need more?

Its the northeast. It does get chilly. So darker roof again is the best option i guess? I was looking at it more from an aesthetic point more.

The color of the roof does not affect the temperature of the house. Roofs have multiple layers and there should also be insulation. So pick any color you want, it won’t affect the temp inside the house at all.

According to multiple sources online, roof color DOES impact house temperature. One source I found said dark roof makes the house 8-10 degrees warmer. An interesting article I read recently said that if we all converted to light color roofs, it would impact global warming. Interesting but unrealistic.

That is a pretty dominant roof…size wise..in order avoid all eye as going to the roof rather than your charming home…i would choose a darkish green that will blend in with the surrounding trees…
to tie it all together perhaps paint the shutters to match the roof…a picture showing the home may suggest other colors…
for instance if there is alotofthe brick…a blend of those colors would work..

Giving the whole home a softer image..less formal

In that case..shutters to match the window trim would be more effective

Take a picture from far enough back to show the whole home…as other ideas may come to mind ….for the right overall effect

    So dark slate roof?

    That would be beautiful!!

Well…the point of seeing the whole house was to see how much brick🤷🏻‍♀️

The one thing that becomes more apparent is that the landscaping is overwhelming the lines of the home…

Medium charcoal gray. It’s versatile and since the roof lasts longer than a paint job, you can more readily change the color of the house. It will work with yellow.

Timberline’s website has a good visualizer . You upload your house and play with all their colors. It’s very helpful. You’ll be able to see a light gray, dark gray or black roof. But since you’re leaning towards yellow, I wouldn’t do black.

Removing the overgrown shrubs first will make it easier for roofers…painters..to do their job…allowing the lines of the whole home to show better as well……also whatever you do ..white shutters will add more to the flow needed in a long home with so many structural variations
