How would you style these cabinets for office?

In my office, I recently put in these cabinets and I'm likely going to put trim around them to make them look more built-in. But I could use some help on how to style the top portion of this wall and the decor. I thought about a nice picture and maybe some floating shelves on each side. The cabinets are about 7 1/2 inches wide and there's no room to add a bookshelf because the entry way is next to the cabinet that has the light switches and then the windows on the other side. I would like something to showcase books and my trinkets so shelving seems nice to me but would that cloud the overall look of this? My overall style is light and bright. I lean towards pinks, blues and obviously white. I have a carpet for the floor on order already. Thank you!

Not to annoy you, Bonnie, but full information is best. You have a rug....and it is what?

I see a desk chair, and where is the desk going?

    Anything else in the room?

Of course you can float shallow shelves, but it looks like a great place for art containing your favorite colors........and perhaps, if you show the room in entirety? There is another spot for a book case, or shelving. You could even add a few inspo pics

Not annoyed and thank you for your insights Jan; plus being kind!! I have a large desk on the opposite side of these cabinets - it's an old bankers desk that is an ugly brown but I'm debating on refinishing. There's a matching filing cabinet that I have next to it but no room for a bookshelf. I'll try to take photo's when I get back to the house. I do a lot of Zoom calls and video's so my backdrop needs to be wow worthy. The office is tucked away from the rest of the house so I'm not in a huge rush to redo the desk now; but I do want this backdrop done soon. Here's the rug:

The point of ANY space? No space lives in isolation, and nothing within the space does either.

As to a heavy desk? Maybe not worth the time and effort of paint or refinish UNLESS you love the desk.

When I hear pinks, green, white? I think light, airy, or glam girl grown up and more fun. So I rather don't see the rug, unless you post some inspos that are perhaps more traditional. Or you paint the cabinetry a deeper color or, or or,

When I or any OTHER pro, in any manner they may ask for "more Info"? It is because there is a context for anything and everything. Call it an envelope. When a non pro says......." See this little spot?" What should I do with it? We have no context. No size, no floor plan, no dimensions, no rest of the space or any space near it, or in view of the weeny spot shown, no pics of what inspires you. THAT is why we push for more/better information.

If the blank wall above your cabinets is the Zoom backdrop, consider a very large, quiet painting or some simple geometric wallpaper. If you want to project a formal image, move the knickknacks out of the Zoom picture.

Love the rug, and something classic like apple pie's byobu is perfect (if you like that sort of thing).

What does the desk look like? Some of those old banker desks are incredibly practical pieces and can't be easily replaced by anything "pretty". But they do have their own charm. Sometimes. Hopefully. And bulky brown desks go with your rug.

It might be best to do one or two large pieces of artwork over this cabinet. Here are some art ideas from various designs of ours:
