Any reason to think it is not T. platyphyllos?

Trelissick gardens, like most/all of the NT gardens, were planted out, during the 18th & 19th centuries, to impress, with plants imported from around the world.

I did look at T. platyphyllos, but as it is a native to the SW England, I wondered if it was one of the other, international, spp.

I did find one of the gardeners, and asked her. She said that they had quite a few Tilia and she believed the one I was asking about was T. paucicostata. It doesn't match, though.

Perhaps tomentosa.

I don't know. I don't seem to be able to differentiate between different sp.

Maybe the bark will assist, but I doubt it, as they also appear to be quite similar.

I suggested tomentosa based on the silvery leaf backs and squat fruit shape. Tomentosa gives an impression of pale fluttering in a breeze when the leaf reverse shows. See your first photo. They're commonly planted in parks.
