Whenever I have a question about what grows where I live I go to the garden center and find out . I hate grass IMO not good for the evironment and so many other choices for ground cover that do not need mowing I have not had grass in my yard for 16 yrs in this house and almost 20 in my last house. We installed fake grass all round the pool and our 2200sq ft of deck all around the house where it is close to the ground. Feels great on bare feet requires no mowing no chemicals to make it look nice iMO a win win In the areas where there was grass we planted thyme in some gravel in some places and huge plant pots filled with whatever takes my fancy every spring.

Creeping Red Fescue is a single mow or no mow ground cover. Jasper 2 is a quality variety. considered a ground cover. It grows to 8" or so and falls over to create small mounds or tufts. It's shade tolerant and doesn't need watering.

Prepping the soil beforehand will give best turf results long term.
