I am beginning to suspect that the "mosses", in the final 2 images, might actually be liverworts also.

Whoops! I goofed. The title should read liverwort, not lichen. I will edit.

The plant in image #3 is the same as 1&2. I lifted a tallus to see what the lower surface looked like. I then placed it back, correct side up. It is definately a liverwort.

It's texture was very soft, and felt more like a fungus or liverwort than any lichen I've ever touched.

I am not seeing much, if any, evidence of lichen. Plenty of liverwort(!!) and a few mosses........but mostly liverworts.

There are literally thousands of species of each of these classifications - some not yet fully identified - so I'd be very skeptical of anyone claiming to be able to ID them without an extensive background or training in Bryology or Lichenology. And none are particularly harmful to plant growth so removal is mostly an aesthetic concern.

I have no idea why I put Lichen. All I can do is plead insanity. :-))))

I did respond to your replies, but things got a bit confused with my misidentifying the Liverwort as Lichen.

The first 3 images are a Liverwort, of which we have nearly 300 spp, it would appear.

Image 4 could be Thuidium tamariscinum, as you suggest, but I think it is too small.

Image 6, I "suspect" is one of the Sphagnum mosses, of which we have >30 spp.

Image 5 is a small area with both spp shown in 4 & 6 and the Liverwort all present.

Better images would have helped, but these were the best I could get.

I admit I was wrong. They are, as I original suggested, lichen.

It is, almost certainly Peltigera membranacea (Common Dog Lichen), which was one of your suggestions.
