i agree... let ma nature deal with it..

odds are the pot will kill it... for a variety of reasons...

it is a TREE ... it does not belong in the house ....

now is the absolute perfect time to plant... see section one:

all that said.. you have an aggressive seeding tree that self seeded itself into your yard... think about that .. as you decide whether you need another one...

and btw.. momma self seeded it into your yard. thats a pretty good indication this tree will think nothing about your local winter .... but for that pot..

The ground provides better insulation than a pot and more resistance to the thaw and freeze cycle. I guesstimate a plant in tbe ground is a zone or two hardier than a plant in a pot unless you bury the pot, get this, in the ground.

There are also water, compaction and drainage issues with pots.

Now i have dug up and potted an Acer palmatum I plan on planting in its forever home in a couple weeks so for temporary use they're fine.
