can an ogee edge vanity counter look modern?

I have a traditional-style bathroom that needs to be ripped out because of water damage. Backsplash and vanity have to go. My style preference is more modern, but it would be a shame to waste this perfectly good travertine countertop, which is ogee edged. Do you think it would work with a modern revamp? Would appreciate thoughts on color pairing suggestions, pics, or any comments.

Travertine is trending again, but done differently than what you have. You might be able to keep the floor if you keep everything very simple. And I don't know, but is it possible to take out the floor accent tiles and replace with something more monochromatic? Or it might be worth it to replace everything if you're already ripping most of it out. But here are just a few travertine ideas.

I think the color looks more dated than the edge. But, if you can get it out in one piece and find a color that works with it, I would not let the edge be what holds you back. I agree that it is great to reuse when possible.

What is the floor, what is the shower, what is the long term bath you want? Someone is always looking for materials - donate to a re store. With so many top selections available.........would you choose this top?

Show the rest of the bath from several angles, Especially if the vanity is the only thing changing.

What's this??? I see a big disconnect in wall color, floor, and top.

Take more pictures that include the entire room.

Well. Depends your budget, what you love or don't. In other words? How FAR you're going. If you're leaving all else intact, ie floor and shower? You will never make it "more modern" So assuming the top comes off nice and easy? You will still need a match for the risers or a tile.

Re think the rug in front of the vanity : ( ? Sort of not playing nicely with the rest.

why not just post a pix of the whole thing on Marketplace and see if you can start fresh.

Now that I see the entire bathroom, I have more questions. Is the entire space being gutted? Are you keeping anything else at all?

so the shower is the main water damage and they marked out the walls and vanity but we haven't opened up anything yet. I thought the only salvageble thing would be the countertop, but now you've pointed out the floor, which I hadn't thought about. Maybe it's better to just gut and redo everything.

It's a gut, because you WANT them to go to the studs, you want NO mold , and no chance of it happening again. It began in the shower? It's ruined the vanity? Tata to all of it.

Go online, figure out some baths where you loooooove the look or feel. Make sure you love the layout in yours as it is now.

Then? Start over: )
