A couple of days ago I had my outdoor porch wall lamps replaced. The originals were from 1978, ugly and rusted but they provided good light. These are the new ones. I also bought the recommended lights for them and while I Ilke the new ones I am really uncertain about the light; it is 2700 K and yellow, made more so by the gold surrounding it.

I had difficulty finding them because the backplate on the old ones was round and about 4.5 inches in diameter. Then the caulk added another half-inch. After experimentation with a shorter width on a new one, we determined that I needed to find lamps that had backplates of at least 5 1/2 inches. The new ones are six inches.

But I am unhappy with the extreme yellow feel even though they are deliberately made that way to resemble vintage bulbs. Nor am I happy with the amount of light, each bulb being 40 watts. It feels so much darker out there, which I do not like. I tried to find those same bulbs (a T8) in higher Kelvins and ideally in LED format, around 4000K, maybe 3500K, but they apparently do not exist.

On the other hand, I know that it always takes me some time to get used to changes. So I plan wait for 2-4 weeks before even thinking seriously about doing anything. But I am unhappy now so I wanted to see if anyone had ideas. The kicker which I mentioned in the beginning is the size of the backplate. Ideally six inches but I could go a half-inch less or maybe wider.
