It depends on how the tile was originally installed, but you may not be able to remove it without removing part of the surround. I know mine is that way. I don't think the tile is objectionable. Maybe it's too dark for your taste, but it is classic. If changing it ends up being cost prohibitive, work on hiding the wires for the TV and call it a day. If it is the brass accents on the firescreen you don't like, those can be spray painted black. People do that all the time. If you do end up removing some of the surround, get rid of the dentil molding on the mantel which is a traditional touch. Once you figure out how easy it is going to be to remove the existing tile and decide to go ahead, there are many ways to proceed. If you have any inspiration pics, add them to your post. If not, starting looking for pictures you like. You can get pieces of marble or granite (remnants) from a slabyard, or you can use a different tile.

My fireplace surround is honed absolute black granite and it looks great with a black firebox like yours. You can spray paint the fireplace door hardware black too.

The window shape doesn’t really complement the TV wall. Consider removing the windows on either side of the TV and sheetrocking the openings. This will give you room for a larger TV or to put artwork or decor where the windows are.

If you do the two things suggested, hide wires and paint the brass, you will see a major difference. The pros will come up with plenty of ideas for a full wall remodel if that’s what you’re really after.

Well IMO the TV needs to not be there it is too high for proper viewing and I need to see the whole room The shelves to me are going to be filled with stuff not really much thta needs to be displayed so if this was my space I would remove the shelves hang a piece of art above the cabinet on one side and put the TV on an articulating arm above the other cabinet since the TV seems small it should work .

I have a similar fireplace surround, and the tile guy - who also did our floor and was very good - was able to replace the tile without trouble.

You have a lot of geometry going on with that wall, with all the various size rectangles plus the curved windows. A tile surround with less contrast to the walls and woodwork would mitigate that, I think. Can you remove the open shelves above the cabinets and put a pair of large curvy pots / plants on either side?

The windows look odd & the tv looks small. I would take take off the vertical wood & replace with taller wood trim that goes all the way up to the ceiling & they would run up along side the windows, so they don’t look like they’re in the middle of know where. Then re-tile/faux stone around the fireplace opening & all the way up between the wood boards/windows. And remount a slightly bigger tv
