Depending on what rootstock it is grafted to, any sweet cherry variety can be maintained at 8-10'. I'd look for ones grafted to a Gesila or Clare rootstock.

Since Stella is self fertile, it can serve as a pollinator to any other sweet cherry with a compatible bloom time.

trees do not stop growing at some magical height nor width ... most size estimates are at 10 years.. and you can expect them to be twice as big at 20 years ...

soooo .. as gal noted.. its up to you to maintain it at whatever size and shape you wish.. think topiary ... ALL trees are prunable ...

make sure you learn the proper pruning time.. to ensure you arent removing embrionic fruit/buds.. etc

Sorry, but trees DO have genetically programmed maximum heights.

A cherry on a dwarf rooting stock WILL stop growing at some 'magical width and height'. Furthermore, the cultivar Stella needs no pruning to fruit other than the removal of dead or crossing branches. It most definitely does not need to be topiarised.

The southeast climate is very challenging for sweet cherry, Ive killed several. Currently trying the University of Saskatchewan sour bush cherry which are pretty sweet but still sour too. They were doing great till this year, they lost thier leaves early. They were not well irrigated so I'm hoping it was that and not the cherry leaf spot problems I have had in the past.

They stay small and are grown on their own roots which could increase longevity in challenging climates like mine.

My dwarf Stella is actually a fair size tree. Maybe 12 feet. I don't prune it for size at all though, just took out some inner branching to make it more airy.
