And, those motion sensor devices eventually fail.

I dislike motion detection no matter where it is. I would definitely want just a regular light, that goes on with the switch.

Eight dollar solution:

• Put a motion sensor bulb in the existing attic light.
• Leave the closet switch on.

I have had a motion sensing, led shop light installed in my garage for several years, and it is great. I'm often walking into the dark garage -- sometimes with my hands pretty full -- and it's nice to not have to fumble with a light switch. And it goes off 30 seconds after I leave. No special wiring was needed: I just plugged the cord into a ceiling receptacle. I'm going to hang another one of these fixtures in my attic soon for the same reasons.

I have a motion sensor light in one attic and it turns on when I walk up the stairs and then off as I walk to the other end of the attic. I have to dance around in the dark to get it to come back on.

I have one in a secret room and i am going back to a switched light.

Granted i live in an old house, but any movement and the light comes on. For me it is floor walking and trucks going by that trigger's it. It is a small led light so little power consumption but still, it defeats the purpose.

In the attic, trucks passing by, mice and even wind will move whatever it is mounted too like a rafter and trigger it on because what it sees does not have to move, the housing itself can move and trigger it.
