No, it's a crack and it was created when the hole for the faucet was drilled. Either too much heat or they slammed the grinder into the top when the piece went through. A color matched Sharpie will make it inconspicuous and you'll have to touch it up ever 6 months or so. That or replace the top and/or sink with a sink with a faucet deck.

It's not going anywhere. It's not going to get worse. Use it as leverage to negotiate a nice discount; they'll be glad to dodge the bullet.

Since the contractor says it is a scratch instead of a crack, tell him to buff it out. He should be able to do that if it really is just a scratch, but if it is a crack, it should probably be filled with an epoxy with a matching color.

If it were quartz instead of granite, you could fill it with clear epoxy, but I don't know how that would look on granite - I think you would need to color match.

Do you have any scraps you can test on? If not, tell the contractor to give you some - there should be plenty of them leftover.

If it were just a "scratch", it would only be on one surface and it would not not have an irregular pattern. That first photo clearly shows that the defect goes all the way through the granite. It doesn't look like a serious problem, but don't accept the contractor's baloney that it's just a scratch.

Epoxy is much too thick to ever penetrate a crack that tight. You may coax some ultra-thin super glue into it. It's not going to buff out either.
