If you post pictures and a sketch of the space (including dimensions, showing windows and door openings) you will get many more suggestions. It is hard to give good advice without knowing what the room looks like.

To answer your questions. Dressers are a thing in the room if the owners want them to be. There is no design rule for/against them. I have a large owners suite, and the dressers are in the closet. Your bedframe/headboard does not have to match the nightstands, but they should be of the same style.

We need pics posted here in a comments DO NO start another post. I just redid my guest room and painted the brown sleigh bed black to make it easiert o get bedding to work. As for dressers I think if you have a big walk in closet all thee clothes should be in there . I do not like all matching furniture in bedrooms but I need to see the choices you are making and ideally what you have now all in comments posted here. BTW wall color is the last choice you make and I always use bedding to drive that choice .

Get rid of the high boy chest to another room. Pick something else entirely for side tables, which in this case are ridiculously small and out of proportion to the bed.

You have an UN decorated room. Black in furniture, is not a color - it is essentially a neutral, and does not dictate wall color, or bedding, or art, or anything else.

If it is a case of you simply do not like the bed......the sleigh style, or you want a different feel in the room, such as more modern, an upholstered bed ? You need to find some inspiration pics that appeal to you. What style, what flavor essentially. Find a bedroom space you love, and post it. There are no mind readers here.

As of now? I'd agree there's nothing to like in the room, but the black bed isn't the problem. The most preferred color for a statement four post bed? Black....: )

I would love a poster bed, but I didn’t know if those only looked good in vaulted ceilings. I’m glad you said that bed color doesn’t dictate color for bedding or wall color.

This is my first brand new home. In my last home we had a much smaller primary bedroom that this furniture filled the room up. Here I feel like it is so small compared to the room that I’m having a hard time visualizing. I thought it was the black furniture that was making it hard to visualize because I felt like I had to always coordinate with that.

I think I just have always struggled with coordinating pieces. I did want my bed to be big and the center piece of the room, I will be adding a ceiling fan, and I would love to get rid of the tall dresser between my windows. The dresser in front of my bed houses my husband’s clothes and is what we use for our tv stand.

I love modern and rustic looks. I love accent walls. I’m not afraid of color, but just struggle with getting everything to look cohesive

Lose the highboy. No matter what else you do. You aren't even showing the locale or size of closets - what variety etc.

The key is for you to look at bedrooms on line and save favorites. You’ll get all kinds of advice on this site, but no one really knows your taste or budget. There is nothing wrong with your bed (unless tired of) but contrasting furniture, window treatment, decor, bedding, wall treatment, and color will all have an impact. Decide on needs as well: storage, seating, etc. Have a plan before buying anything.

I think what I find is I shop to match a picture online that I see or will find a piece of furniture that I like and then struggle with building around it. For a woman, I feel like I have zero decor sense

There's nothing limiting about black furniture--it's a neutral and you can do any color with it. Here are some really pretty and colorful bedrooms with black beds. As you can see, they use natural materials, colorful wallpaper, rugs, window treatments, wall color, and accessories to liven up the rooms. You can also pair black with brown furniture as long as there's enough contrast.

Whether you keep your dressers is up to you. If you need the storage space, then keep them. As long as they fit the dimensions of the room, they're fine, even if you don't need them for storage. But you could also use other furniture if you like--a reading chair with a table and lamp, a bench, a desk and chair. Depends on the size and configuration of the room. You might want to post a scale drawing of the room for us to help you further.

Let designers’ skills be your guide initially (via mood board pictures and save every one you like) regarding the major furniture pieces and for the smaller decisions, even pros test different options in a space. Just take your time and bring home/return when needed. It can be a long process, but your first decision is if keeping the bed, etc. The second is viewing mood boards on Pintetest and Houzz, as combos will be very helpful and with a color scheme/accessories as well.

If I could mind read (wishing!) I would think that you feel the bedroom is stark. That was my reaction. With only black and white hard surfaces it would feel that way. If you're struggling for inspiration, look in your closet. Are you all neutrals, do you love color, pattern? Take your time, think about what you want your bedroom to feel like, look at the 1000 bedrooms on Houzz, and gradually evolve what you want. Feel free to imitate someone else's great taste, we do it in fashion all the time!

You’re right. Moving from full time renters to finally being homeowners, I’m feeling like the whole white black room is feeling very stark to me. I’ve leaned towards vision boards like this, but I want to move away from white walls. I like that this picture shows a black bed with brown wooden night stands which proves to me my bed doesn’t have to match my nightstand. My carpets are cream which I think threw more loops for me. Maybe I just feel like my headboard doesn’t make a bold enough statement. I have a 15’x18’ bedroom which I’m not used to this size. I will keep looking for inspiration. Thanks for your suggestions

Where are the windows in the wall, where is the closet entry ? All of this in feet and inches.Every wall, window doorway and passage, The width of the windows. Draw, measure with a nice long sturdy tape measure. Upload it as a JPEG bold, legible and neat

Why? Before you set out just buying mindlessly? You make a plan. the comes what to buy, what color, what finish, what bedding and what to paint the walls.

Te bedroom is far from huge, it is simply larger than what you had: )
