By all means keep taking starts and planting them in other areas. But it would be getting a little too late in my zone, so depending where you are, maybe wait until spring.

yes.. trees are out competing for water.. reducing vigor ...add water..but NEVER fert under a tree.. or the tree will grow more roots.. to steal more water.. go figure on that ...

take one of your clumps.. dig out half.. leave half... blast off all the soil ... and make 20 or 30 new clumps from the large one... and replant ...

please include your location i every post... in my MI.. its a bit late for this.. i might fear small clumps to heave out of the ground after it freezes... so i would do it in early spring.. before the plant comes out of dormancy ... probably early april ...

if your ground doenst freeze.. there is probably no limit to when you do it...

btw.. do you shovel or blow snow off the driveway.. piling it on these plants.. any issue of salt accumulation ...

though this plant might cover space over time.. im not sure 'creeping' would the proper term for how it does it...

i move snow towards the road. ground freeze varies from year to year. during a mild winter the ground barely freezes. then we can have some severe temps. there was a spell during the late 70s & early 80s with sub zero temps & LOTS of snow. in 79 there were temps at 15-20 below zero. i'll try moving clumps in the spring. hopefully my back will be recovered enough by then. the last couple years i mowed it to be rid of the winter brown out. does it ever reseed itself? i have some clumps that popped up 15-20 ft away from the main mass.
