Wall-Mounted Range Hood Installation Problem

Hi, I paid a handyman $150 to install a wall-mounted range hood that I purchased for $300 from Home Depot. The result is unsatisfactory, as you can see in the picture.

It's difficult to discern from the image, but the center is also off. What would be the easiest and most cost-effective way to fix this?

The handyman suggested buying moulding to cover the gaps.

I also noticed that Home Depot offers a pricier range hood for $400 with a thicker column.

Would it be better to switch to that one? I haven't used the kitchen yet because I'm still waiting for the induction stove that I ordered, so the range hood has never been used either. Do you think I can still return it?

Is there any advice you can offer to improve the situation?
