How bad do you want this ? I think it is a huge waste of money even at 1/2 that price .Why the mesh when a nice textured glass would be less and IMO more attractive .

Thanks everyone. Sounds like to have it laminated in glass $4k is probably in-line otherwise I can get the mesh myself and lay it on top. How would i install it?

You install it in place of the glass insert, not with a glass insert. There is no room in the rabbit for both. (which is why you buy the expensive laminated glass if you want glass and mesh) You will have to be familiar with creating a template, cutting metal with shears, and deburring the sharp cut you places. Then you have to install. How you do that depends on how things are installed now. Wood sticking is the better option, but that's high end. A gasket is another option, or just a bead of silicone. It isn't rigid enough for clips.

I have only ever seen these instead of glass not on top of glass. LIke DeWayne said, there may not be room for both within the frame of the glass area.

Depends on your cabinets. Are these existing cabinets with wood panels, existing cabinets with glass inserts or are you buying new cabinets?

And, are you sure that you want open mesh? For instance, I wouldn't use it next to the cooker, like the inspo picture. Because grease will accumulate there even with good extraction from a range hood.

Do you mind having to dust the mesh & the inside of the cabinets?

This is most usually found in non-kitchen pieces of furniture because it really isn't suitable for a small or even average sized working kitchen. OK if the kitchen is large and the mesh is across the room from the cooker.

Thanks everyone! Super helpful and enlightening :) My thought was definately mesh behind the glass, not in lieu of. It sounds like that might not be possible as a DIY with my contractor given limited space for both.
