Cripes, leaves not down yet. and hot water bottle still in storage. I LOVE the pine grove. My little collection (of 2 - syivestris and wallichianum)) might be extended if my seedlings take off. (pinus strobus, p.bungeana, pinus pinea and p.radiata).

Not far from Debra, I got 4 inches.

Aaarrrggg. Like rosaprimula we still have fully leafed trees, most not even showing colour yet. But it's blowing a gale and pelting rain tonight. Yet another named storm.

I was going to start a post last week Debra but I was too disgusted to go out and take a pic until mid afternoon when most of it had melted. Too soon for the snowy wonderland I woke up to. I had 2-3" as well.

Storm Ciaran has gathered size and velocity and is causing catastrophic flooding. A horrible conjunction of rainfall, high tides and years of governmental neglect has resulted in death and mayhem. Have been living in wellies (boots) as none of my shoes can cope with the constant rain (and dogs must be walked). East Anglia has had some localised flooding but nothing like the south coast, Wales, Scotland and northern England. Not doing much gardening but...the kitchen is progressing.

Have finally painted all the walls and doors, most of the cupboards (all the sink area needs work) and of course, the floor is still to do. I have been hanging around on the kitchen forum - an eye-opener for sure. My kitchen looks NOTHING like most of the photos or designs. Apart from some drawer knobs, paints and cushion covers, I have spent hardly any money. I remade the curtains with thrift shop fabric (and lined them with my old green velvet, ones so they are fantastic winter weight curtains). I have made more shelves with timber from my stash, some patchwork velvet chair seats and bought a print of cows.

I have been taking photos but have forgotten several steps in the convoluted process to post up on here - have to wait for D-i-L. Also, I didn't tidy up or move rubbish out of the way so don't judge me too much. Will do my best to upload some (rubbish) photos.

rosa, yes, I've seen that Europe has been getting unending storms from the wunderground radar site. Looks like France maybe getting hit the worst.

We got about 4 inches of heavy wet slush here but its all gone today. Just a little north (Muskegon) got dumped on big time, closed schools and some businesses. Hoping the cold has turned the hosta leaves to mush.

Had an inch of snow last week and some very deep cold temperatures, thankfully now back to slightly above seasonal conditions and sunshine. I guess, the forecast calls for November to be rather pleasant in these parts. Today, I was raking up grass clippings to apply as mulch to beds and took the loppers and shovel to an overly rambunctious 'Summer Wine' ninebark, am sure it would grow 8 x 8 if left to be! Gotta go through the seeds and scratch a few things in that require to be fall sown and hill up just a few more tender roses.

No snow, but the other day about a half hour after a family marveled that Massachusetts was getting some snow, it started sleeting here in southwestern CT. A weird, slushy kind of sleet. As someone put it, like thick rain lol. It came down quite hard for about half an hour then stopped. We got another shorter dose of it a few hours later and that was it. Back to sun and relatively seasonal temperatures since then.

Saw a headline this morning about Ciaran. I guess Italy is getting hit hard. I hope these weather extremes finally wake people in charge up to the facts of climate change, but I'm not too hopeful.

So fun to hear from so many of you! tj, I adore that tree….. it is so graceful and dignified. Wish I had room for one, but my yard is more suited for that little tiny picea glauga(that’s misspelled I’m sure, also called a blue spruce if I recall. I was looking for them this fall at Minor’s but no luck. Would it best be ordered online?
Bill you have so many conifers! I love that you have dug seedlings from forests and planted them. It gives you so much variety.
rosaprimula, thanks for that info on what’s happening weather wise in Europe. I had not been following that storm. It’s always sad to hear deaths associated with weather events. Unfortunately, with climate change we will be facing more extreme weather events as time goes on. PLEASE show us pictures of your kitchen project when you’re ready. New kitchen design is always fun!

Like others report, I had the very cold and snowy weather and two days later it’s back to unseasonably warm again. Husband has plans to golf on Sunday, temps expected to be in the low 50’s F.

Glad to be in the company. I thought it was just lake snow effect, we got about an inch and most friends west got nothing... Most regret that my raspberries were still producing nicely

My first snow in NJ/Zone 7a/b usually comes in January. November and December are mostly rain, and we've already had tons of rain for the year. Supposed to be a big El Nino year. Still confused what that means for me here. Enough with the rain already, I want a dry, sunny, mild winter.

From what I’ve read, the El Niño will cause warmer weather in the northern and some of the Great Lakes states and wetter conditions in the south. Not sure about coastal regions.

All the snow is gone now and my husband is golfing in near 60 degree weather today. Crazy…..

Oh, love that Green Arrow! Luscious gorgeous specimen...

I had one in front of my old house but it was too big to take with me. My only hope landscaper that removed it for new owners sold it to someone.

It is warm here but windy. I still have tons of yard cleaning to do. My forest is mainly oaks heavily overrun by buckthorn and is does not drop leaves till later on.
