Is your concern the function of the mirror or the appearance of the mirror with the vanity?

Appearance. Will it be too much empty wall space, and will two 17.5" mirrors look silly over that size vanity. Thank you!

Waht size are the sinks ? I do not think those are too small for the wall but the sink size is important IMO. I do not think a different shape for the makeup are is a good idea but then I also do not like lower counters for makeup

It's hard because West Elm does not provide dimensions of the sinks. This picture might show them a little better.

If those mirrors work - do you agree that the side sconces don't work because they go over the edges of the vanity? Better off with overhead lights?

I am not going to do a round mirror over makeup vanity - I was thinking something arched like the picture below. The makeup vanity is actually the desk version of the West Elm Anton vanity. I was glad it was a little lower because it doesn't have the counter top.

What if I put one double-sconce in between the two mirrors, and none on either side? I will also have recessed lighting. This one that I love is 14.5" wide.

Love those mirrors, and the size looks fine in your scale drawing. But I agree that the round one at the dressing area doesn't work.

Everything I read about width of mirrors makes these sound TINY at 17.5"....

I'm wondering if what will end up bothering you is the fact that the mirrors are not centered in between the scones....

BTW - if you'll look closely at the vanity photos from West Elm, you'll notice that they have only put scones on the edges or one in the middle, but not all three altogether in the same photo.

I think that if you will go in the same route (i.e. 1 in the middle, or 2 as you just suggested), or put 2 at the edges, it might look better. Putting 1 or 2 in the middle only may also allow you to put wider mirrors, I think. Or you can do above-mirror vanity lights instead of scones.

If your drawing is accurate, I don't think they look "tiny."

Re the sconces, the one in the middle looks awkward since there's a larger space between it and the mirrors than the ones on the ends. What if you kept the side ones and added the double in the center? I wouldn't rely on recessed lighting for grooming at the mirror--it causes unflattering shadows. You could go with sconces on the wall above the mirrors too, like this, because there was no room for anything on the right side.

In general, the elevation you posted is IMO a less than ideal combination of shapes and sizes. Don't declare your goal is vintage MCM and then throw in mirrors with arched tops!

Keep your solution simple in small spaces like bathrooms. If you require a makeup vanity then work with a company that can supply all items.

Keep the counters at the same height. You can always get a seat that adjusts in height to accommodate a taller countertop.

Thank you, Einav! I'm not going to do three sconces. I don't love just the two at the edges either, because they look crowded. I was thinking of just putting one in the middle, the 2-light sconce I posted. Is it okay to put a 2-light sconce in the middle? OR the 2-light sconces above the mirror.

I could fit wider mirrors, but I really like the style of these and that they are medicine cabinets - and I can't find any like these that are larger. That's why I wanted to make sure that 17.5" is okay.

So the question might be...one 2-light sconce in the middle, or over the mirrors, but then is that too much empty wall space.

These mirrors are only slightly wider than yours--19"

The width of the entire wall is exactly 10' like yours.

What if you moved the dressing area to the center and worked from there? Have sconces on either side of both mirrors? Just a thought. The "empty" space could be filled in with framed wall decor.

I looked far and wide for a vanity and makeup vanity to meet my needs...It was too expensive to go custom, and I landed on the West Elm Anton 78" vanity with the West Elm Anton Mini Desk which is 36." I know it's not ideal, but I thought it was good that it was 4" shorter and 2" less deep, so that it didn't look weird without a counter top. I had to get creative. Thanks so much for taking the time to help..

Yes, IMO, 17.5" medicine cabinets will be too narrow.

Looking at the photo--78" vanity--each mirror looks just a bit under 1/3 of the length of the vanity. So, I am guessing that those mirrors are 24" or a bit more wide. Substantially wider than the medicine cabinet you like.

t's not so much what the sconces look like, it's what YOU look like in the light they provide. You'll want light from both sides. You'll also value storage space on the wall more than in cabinets, drawers.

Thanks...in that case, I'd likely have to do above-mirror lighting. I just don't want the wall space to look too empty with 17.5" mirrors.

1. keep the scones, but do 4 total - two surrounding each mirror - it may be sufficient to take care of the space between the mirrors (see this):

2. above-mirror vanity lights, and between the mirrors - narrow wall art, or perhaps custom accent counter-to-ceiling backsplash of some sort? see this and this:

I'll defer to a Pro (like Diana) on that, but I admit - looking at vanity scone photos on Houzz - I cannot find a single one in which the scones are installed beyond the vanity space... I'm also wondering whether it may pose a challenge for you when coming to e.g. place lighting/mirror for your make-up area (since the right-most scone is already somewhat encroaching on that space)? So there's a chance that above-mirror vanity lights will work best (combined with wall art / accent for the space between mirrors)

Thank you, Einav, you are so kind to help out. For the make-up area, I will likely use a separate lighted mirror to do my makeup, in addition to a larger one that I will hang above the desk. But I won't be hanging any additional lighting (there will be one recessed above).

Ugh I hope it looks okay...seeing it together the way Beverly posted the pic (thank you)...it was a cost saver, but I hope it flows.

Whenever I have a question about spacing, I draw it out to scale. Who did your drawing? I'd have you or them draw both options--one with the sconces on either side of the mirrors, both spaced equidistant from the mirrors, and the other with a double sconce. Then see which one looks better.
