Need help with Basement flooring

We are in the midst of redoing our basement and so far all we have finished is the paint. I don't know that I captured this well in the photos but the stairs terminate essentially into a wall where you turn right to go to a walkway with a bathroom, and left into the larger TV space. Behind the larger TV space is the Tiled area you see in the photos. There is a long, narrow section that effectively divides the basement and then a smaller TV space on the opposite side. Plans right now, are to put a built-in Bar/Kitchenette where the tiled space is so we will definitely want to leave that section as a hard surface, thinking engineered wood but not definitive. I would prefer hard surface across the entire basement, husband wants carpet so we are compromising. My initial thoughts were to use wood to the right of the stairs, to replace the tiled space and across the entire length of the basement, leaving only the TV spaces with carpet which we would replace, likely with Berber carpet. I hate the flooring so much, I'm trying not to rush into a decision but getting antsy and suffering from analysis paralysis. I appreciate any and all help!
