They almost always come from someones front yard. They are nice, full, open grown trees that have just gotten 'too big'.

I do wonder how the trees are identified and procured. Is there a Rockefeller committee scouring the suburbs for the perfect tree and then they approach the owner and offer compensation for the tree, or the other way around - the tree owner approaching the Rockefeller Christmas Tree people about an unwanted tree.

Binghamton, NY is not exactly a suburb of NYC.

If I had a 50ft tree I was tired of anyway and they offered to remove it for free.....

If you read up on it, it is a combination of both. They DO have scouts that go out hunting for the perfect tree as well as homeowners that offer/donate what they feel is the perfect tree. There is no compensation....it is just the pride of being selected.

btw, all the trees are recycled after the holidays, utilizing whatever timber they may provide as well as mulched boughs and greenery.
