The chairs are too traditional and should be replaced with a simpler style such as a lower back, no arms, squarer style.. Chandelier is too fussy. Check out stores that have contemporary furniture such as West Elm, CB2.. There are lots of style that will compliment your beautiful table and will update your room. Modern design is clean lines.

The table is fine, it would look good in my very modern ( mostly glass house ). NO epoxy wrap please. Sell the chairs if you can, they look comfortable.

I'd refinish the table darker.

Do you have pics of the new room? Modern can mean so many things and that table could go in so many spaces. I agree with others that you probably should keep the table and ditch the chairs. I'd stain the table if you don't like the color.

Well, I think you need to take a step back and work on a “ vision” for the room, taking into account adjacent rooms & furnishings. Collect inspo pics that include elements— colors, furnishings— of things you’re planning to keep or are aiming for.

So, carpeting or rug, drapes, keep table/ replace chairs or vice versa , chandelier, paint, wallpaper — all work together to create the style and if you start getting some ideas of what you wish for in an overall look, plus window- shop /price for some of the things, that might suggest what lends itself to keep & work with ( could be painting a table for example but still, what color is driven by the vision) , what’s expensive to replace ( are chairs very comfortable, since upholstered, vs not so much? )!and so on.

+1 keep the classic chairs, maybe reupholster or change backs to cane when you settle into your new place, and replace the table with something like a very large Parsons table or whimsical depending on what kind of modernity you want.

The chairs are the issue , How madern do you want to go? Waht are the other spaces like ? I need pics of the LR for sure to help. To me the table can go in any design direction .The chairs , the drapery and the chandelier are driving the bus decor wise
