recommendations for window brands and dealers in TX??

Hi all, we are replacing all of our 30 year-old windows. We are in Austin, TX. We like the look of wood interiors and metal exterior, and want something more modern.

We just got one quote for Kolbe Vistaluxe which made our jaws drop! Also, they said it is 12 weeks out from order. Is this true for every brand? Can you recommend a few other places and brands where we can get quotes? We are open to local brands if anyone knows of any good quality local brands?

Our brick house has a lot of tall windows whose sizes I think may not be so easily changed since they are in brick. Is there a way to cut costs, like order an awning plus picture window combo, versus one tall casement, etc.? Thank you!!

Marvin and Anderson may have what you want . Modern aluminum clad wood is expensive. Lead times depend on brand and some the lines within it. Usually the only way to make windows cost less in the same opening is to reduce the amount of windows. Turning a twin casement in a single slider or double hung for example. An awning with a picture over it would require you to buy 2 windows and a charge to mull them together.

Toddinmn, thank you! I will check out Marvin and Anderson too. I had always heard that Marvins were the most pricey of all brands though.

Do you recommend Sierra Pacific or Quaker at all?

On other ways to save, do you know which is better? Crank-out casements and awnings, or push-outs? Also, for example, If I have an 8 foot opening for a patio door, is it more to do 2-panel (larger glass) or 3 panel (smaller glass?) Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge!

With Marvin do not limit yourself to the Ultimate series. You can also look into the Essentials and the Elevate series, both quality windows as well.

We’re in Austin and replaced all our windows and doors (except the front door) with RAM. It’s a company out of Houston. I think your 12 weeks sounds about right. The rep helped us mix and match the doors for quality and savings. Our sliding doors are Western, and we have one glass swing door that’s Sierra Pacific. All our windows are casement or picture, bronze aluminum. It might be worth it to get a quote from them.

Another brand is Milguard. I don’t know anything about it except that several houses on the homes tour had them.

millworkman, i saw the Marvin Elevate and thought it was a very nice window too. Question, will fiberglass color fade over time? Can you paint it when it fades? Our house gets a ton of harsh sun.

Thanks Stiley for the suggestion! We will check out RAM next! Can you share which store you purchased your windows from?

Everythings fades and everything can be repainted. The aluminum clad has deeper and more shiny appearance from the get go. Darker colors will show this

more and are more prone to showing fade over time. The Elevate is good choice and I see no reason to higher in Marvin’s line other than looks and options

Perhaps Randy will chime in, he is The go to expert in the South.

I’m in Round Rock and used Ringer Windows out of Taylor. I’m really pleased with how they look and their service. My neighbor used them and really liked them too. I’m in a regular suburban home so you may have the need for more upscale windows. I think they replaced over 30 windows in my house. Georgia at Ringer is great with suggesting options.

RAM has a showroom in Austin now. We contacted them directly to get our windows. I actually grew up near Taylor and have always heard good things about Ringer, but we haven't used them before.
