Post your photos of the outstanding oranges in your garden. This category encompasses all shades of orange, including peach, apricot and melon. Seedling photos are welcome. The next color will be lavender on Saturday.

Maui Sunrise was my best orange last season.

Primal Scream did pretty well for one grown in a pot for years.

David, that Ellison seedling is lovely. Is it a dip? Debra, glad to see your photo of Stone Palace Happy Go Lucky. I always see it on the LA. I have a few of the SP series and they do well here.

I will start with 2 sibling seedlings that have amazing plant habits. Both are 40 inches tall with 3 - 4 way branching and 22+ buds which is excellent in zone 4/5. I don't normally 'go' for orange but this short cross yielded great plants.

Heavenly Orange Scorcher x Heavenly Way Big......#1

    The blooms are HUGE.....10 inches!

    Here's it's sibling, slightly smaller at 8 inches across.....#2

    More oranges I grow:

    Alabama Jubilee

    Spirit Fox

    Old Time Memories

    Venus's Fire

    Orangutan

    Running in the Rain

    Alabama Jubilee, again

    Primal Scream

    Spacecoast Blast Off

    Mean Green

a stippled orange seedling of mine out of Spacecoast Francis Busby x Once and For All

    closeup of stippling

    Orange Pushup

    Flaming Flamingo

    Tangerine Tuesday

    Live Jazz

    Parade of Peacocks

Doctor Handsome, not really orange but salmon perhaps?

    Spacecoast Francis Busby

Tiger Town, a blend of red and orange

    Sasquatch Socks

    a diploid seedling of mine

this seedling is a blend of red and orange......sibling to the one above (SC Francis Busby x Once and For All)

    Walter's Tango

    Panic in Detroit

Another sibling, 'Spacecoast Francis Busby x Once and For All'

Ruffled Apricot, more peach than orange

That's it for me. My other oranges seem to fit in other categories so I'll show them later.

Well, we have come to a category that is near and dear to our hearts here.

Court and Spark is a bright color and a good grower. It left the garden this past season in the interest of downsizing.

Disco Inferno is a good grower and a bright flower.

A lot of Trimmer's daylilies are tender here, but Fire Bird Suite has done well.

Glowing Quasar is one of my favorites. I think I like it better than Bass Gibson.

Hot Buttered Rum is one the light side of orange.

Illinois Jacquet Flies Again is a huge flower. This one got crushed in the wind event.

I like the shape of King Crab.

Lions and Tigers and Bears is a good grower, but the flowers are never as intensely colored as the registration photo shows. This is the best color we have seen.

Mardi Gras Indian is a favorite with its intense and bright color.

    More to come . . .

  • last year

We bought Not Far from the Tree when it was a seedling. It took a couple of years, but the hybridizer has finally registered it. As you might imagine, Bob loves it.

    Here's our Primal Scream.

Raggedy Man is a favorite here.

Sea of Cinders blooms in the greenhouse every spring and then usually reblooms outside. This photo was taken in the greenhouse.

    That's all for me.

    Celeste,

The Ellison seedling is a diploid.

Good to see so many oranges. It's my 2nd favorite color after yellow. Here's a few of mine.

No Way Jose w/ Wayside Guppy Gums:

    Heavenly Orange Blaze:

Burning Inheritance. Is my orange version of Acquire the Fire. Heat proof:

    Indian Ripple:

    South Seas. Everyone's favorite:

    Better Then Ice Cream:

    Abstract Orange:

    Coral Corduroy with Blushing Escapade:

When asked about the most buds I always think about this light orange daylily. Although I don't count buds, this seems to always have masses of blooms on it for the first part of the season. One of the rare instances that I've liked a box store daylily introduction.

    Orange Smoothie:

    That's it for now.............Maryl

David - I'm glad you are able to post now. It's weird that you had to change browsers. It's good to see Chilled Orange Sorbet. Mine did not bloom this year.

Celeste - I'm always impressed by pictures of Spirit Fox.

Nan - King Crab and Glowing Quasar are my favorites of yours.

Maryl - You really have a lot of nice ones in this category. My favorites are Heavenly Orange Blaze and Abstract Orange.

I only have a few orangey daylilies.

A Goldner seedling I got from Laura. This is a great plant and a late bloomer, good bud count.

Tyger River has great color, slow to increase. It probably needs a better spot.

Ciel d’ Or is a great smaller daylily

Primal Scream has a marvelous season. It sulked for two seasons after a move.

Sailor Sky, cant say enough good things about this daylily, a luscious coral and a late bloomer.

Orange Smoothie, lost my first one, this replacement is doing well.

Just wanted to comment on a few oranges that stand out to me: Court and Spark (shame it had to be downsized), Mardi Gras Indian, Sailor Sky, Chilled Orange Sorbet, Walter's Tango (been on my long list for awhile), and Euphoric. It looks great in your picture Debra. From the database picture alone I wouldn't have liked it at all...............Maryl

Maryl - Euphoric bloomed later than usual when it was very dry. It's never looked like that before. It usually looks more like the database pictures.

Sherry - Your clump of Primal Scream is stunning. Sailor Sky always seems to do so well for you.

Court and Spark was too small a bloom here to make it into the garden. Coral Corduroy looks very appealing. It is rather short, but that is good for pot culture. Why didn't the Ellison seedling get a name? All those buds, and such a beautiful ruffled flower. Slow to increase? That usually doesn't stop people from registering. Tyger River (a bonus) was very short this year (of course, not without company in this bad year). I am wondering if I should pick up Miss Demeanor. Evaluation of Tiger Town? I see it is a cascade. I look forward to seeing Hot Buttered Rum in the garden next year. Sitting Cool has been very pleasing here; not sure I would call it orange, but it certainly warrants a picture. I am always interested in reviews of the Stone Palace cultivars. The Victorian Lace seedling is lovely. Since VL does well here, it arouses more interest.

Mantis: I included SITTING COOL as it is a peachy pink and peach was included in the oranges. As far as the ELLISON seedling: I am evaluating it for registration. I also made some crosses with it so I want to see the seedlings.

David, what browser were you using before? When I was using Windows, I used SRware Iron and Slimjet as my browsers. They are based on the same base as google so they ran as chrome did on virtually every website. Slimjet had some quirks sometimes but it uploaded superfast and well to Houzz. I had no problems at the peak of the terrible Houzz uploading time. These won't track you like chrome does.

  • last year

Brad, I had been using Safari without any difficulty and then one day, Houzz would no longer load properly. I reached out to Houzz and they said to use Chrome.

David, I use Firefox derivatives on my Linux operating system [super secure] and they work fine on house. There are lots of good reasons to not trust chrome. See if you can download SRware Iron and try it. Even Firefox would be better than Chrome if it will work.

Mantis - Miss Demeanor seems to grow better in the North than it has in my garden, where it has gotten hit by grubs many years. A Chicago daylily grower who bought two fans from me years ago says it's one of the best Davissons he grows. In years when we're not in drought, it always reblooms. In years with ample rain, it has gotten 20-25 buds per scape.

Finally getting around to orange. While not my favorite, there are some, especially the ones that practically glow, that really appeal to me. Debra, I have always loved Maui Sunrise. Always looked forward to Julia's posting of it.

Celeste, I really like Alabama Jubilee, Flaming Flamingo, and Tiger Town.

Nancy, I like Court and Spark.

Maryl, Burning inheritance and of course South Seas.

Sherry, the Goldner seedling is wonderful; also like Sailor Sky.

Everyone who posts them: Primal Scream and Indian Ripples.

    Primal Scream

my unregistered seedling Quasi-Quasar. Varies on how red or orange it is.

Christopher Russell x Orange Velvet. I got several well budded seedlings out of this combo, two of which are orange.

    Tenn. Sunset

    VT Sophie

I also have Ciel D'or, Rocket City, Tuscawilla Tigress, and VT Autumn Fire.
