Color issues on timber trusses

last modified: 2 years ago

These fir timbers came out way too red and we're finding it impossible to find a floor they suits them.

I know we can paint or stain very dark to cut the red, but I'd rather not go darker. We tried a green toner to neutralize the red (on a sample piece) and it made it more on the gold side, which is as much of a problem as the red.

These are rough, so they can't be painted white to blend with the ceiling, correct?

I've heard of doing a chalk paint and "darkening" wax to lighten, give a wood look and the correct tone. Has anyone here done that?

Any other options I'm not considering?
