I don't know that I would put much on the end table because I'd want to leave room to set down drinks, book, remote, phone, laptop when I'm sitting on either of those sofas.

Move the floor lamp to a different spot, and put a table lamp there. You could put some books or a nice bowl/sculpture on the bottom shelf, but I agree a copule of coasters on top is plenty.

I would put the floor lamp in another area of the room---maybe in a corner and put a table lamp on the end table and I would paint the end table an accent color. You could put books and magazines on the bottom rack of it.

A table lamp, google for good proportion for the furniture and location. Too short and you blind people entering the room, too tall and people sitting are faced with glare.

Thoughts on rug placement?

The rug is too small. You said to be kind but you asked a second time… both sofas should be halfway on the rug. You also need a coffee table.

yeah, it looks soft but insufficient. if you "have to use it," could you buy a second one and overlap them artfully to better fill the space?

How about putting the rug slightly under the sofas? Maybe?

The rug is too small. I would place it so there is no bare floor visible at the corner where the couches meet; after the rug is pulled in to cover that gap, it’s too small.
