Hi, we bought some new curtains for our newly redecorated bedroom but now not sure about best colours for bedding and if we need to stick to totally plain? Any thoughts please?

Susie, love the drapery pattern & ceiling light. The colors in drapes give you lots of color options but I echo what’s already been said - we need to see the room to be able to give useable suggestions for you to consider.

Love your curtains! a lot depends on the flooring but I would be tempted to layer creams, whites and greens

Thank you all for input so far, sorry have limited space to take photos atm as we currently have other furniture temporarily in here while painting the next bedroom. Will post full pic when I can

@la_la Girl the carpet is a cream/light beige colour

@Patricia Colwell Consulting thank you, will post further photos when I can. The shadows from the lights don’t worry me, we tend to use bedside lamps more. Regarding order of buying things we already had cream/light beige carpet and headboard, then chose paint and wallpaper - we then bought curtains as liked the bright fresh look. Was this wrong?

There is no wrong but usually wall color is last to be able to work with all the other elemnts since pint is the most flexible item you can match it to anything. I will wait for the pics. We do for sure need to see wallpaper that is going to now drive the bus with the curtains.

It really depends on the way you want the room to feel, its style, as well as your comfort level using patterns. Can’t go wrong with a lux linen and lovely cushions - test different prints/colors. You would have more options if you looked for fabric and had the cushions made.

Thank you @maureen for your lovely suggestions, there are actually cushions available in the same fabric as curtains but I thought that might be too much. Really like the look of the cushions you’ve shown!

@la_la Girl thank you, I really like that shade of green with the white!

Actually Kathy had a stroke in real life and is trying hard to get better .

I'd like a leaf green, but you're getting lots of great suggestions in a more neutral direction too.

Your wall color, wallpaper, and headboard are sophisticated and handsome, while your curtains feel whimsical and bright. They seem like a mismatch to me, but perhaps the perfect bedding can bridge them together.

    Susie thanked Kendrah

@kendrah you could be right but hopefully I can get it to all tie together. I’m not very good at this sort of thing

Love the colorful curtains. For a comforter or bedspread I would go with the accent color of pale peach/pale pink in the curtain flowers. Would look great. Don't overwhelm the room with more red in the comforter. Let the curtains be the focal point.

    Susie thanked Cara Fidler

I would keep the bedding neutral, to enhance the headboard and wallpaper - like a very soft grey or green, and use the pillows for pop of accent to tie in with curtains which are lovely!

"Actually Kathy had a stroke in real life and is trying hard to get better ."

That is a very unfortunate fact, well known to regular Houzzers as Kathy has been a regular for ages. To the other posts suggesting anything else? Maybe go back and delete your post : )?

    I'm sorry, I am confused

What is the relationship here? I understand the accent paper to a degree, with headboard.

I am sorry to say I do not understand the curtain selection at all. Nor the paint, nor the curtains.

It appears the selections are being made individually, with no particular look in mind for a final result.

I would pause, get some inspiration pics loaded up below, of bedrooms you love. Images where you love the feel, the colors, the calm, the vibrancy, something? Sorry, but it's really not working well at this moment.

I would add that the concept of accent wall is not necessary. Paper the room, or paint the room. All four walls.

I'm a regular Houzz user and have no familiarity with Kathy or that she had a stroke. Very unfortunate and I hope she makes a full recovery. I think people should remove their posts about her, now that it's been made known to the rest of us.

@Kathy Furt I’m sorry to hear you’ve been sick for a month and yes, that is a real drag! I wish you strength for your continued journey to full recovery. It sounds like your daughter has a very interesting flock of people loving chickens with personality.

I’m another Kathy - great name we have😊

I’m swooning over both the spotted bedding and plaid bedding with your curtains. Great choices Beverly. I still dont ununderstand how it will look with the wallpaper but if they are returnable, get them in the space, post some pics, and show us. Would love to see.

    I'm lost.....................

What , which of column A,B,etc?

A room is more than "colors" ; colors evoke a feeling

Calm, sophisticated, luxurious, grown up, urbane

    Confused:

Fresh, springy, cheerful, relaxed, cottage, unpretentious.

Now ? I'd either use the darling curtains in a guest bedroom, or pack them up for a return

It's that, or strip paper and paint four walls.: )

The lack of a single cohesive idea, selecting in isolation, is doing not one element in the room its due justice.

@BeverlyFLADeziner... Perfect! I love it! What a great room to wake up in. I hope the whole house ends up so cheery and unpretentious. What a great space that would be to live in.

And what of the walls and headboard already in place? ( middle )

Anyone have a plan when her next post is

"Help! What is not working here?!

Apologies, but were this my client, and the client said upon my arrival......"Look what I got! What do you think?!"

My answer is " Just Adorable! For a different room!"

Let's back up a minute, what were we going for with the headboard, our paint, and this wallpaper accent wall? Let's talk about how we wanted this room to feel"...................

It's fine to change your mind, but if you love these, lets really make them sing in your space. Lets take this headboard and use it in your guest room , and redoing walls won't be the end of the world. You okay with that, and we give you and DH a wonderful, cheery garden in here?"

I think you've gotten some great suggestions for bedding that will work with both the curtains and the wallpaper. Beverly is always so helpful and has a great eye. You obviously like the curtains and want to use them in THIS room or you wouldn't have purchased them and hung them and asked for help coordinating things with them. Your headboard will work here. It's unfortunate that some people put so much of their energy in disparaging instead of helping or suggesting.

Thank you @Ollychick, I was starting to feel a little foolish. I don’t have a an eye for these things but I love fell in love with these curtains after we decorated - I now realise this was the wrong way to do things so will bear this in mind for future room updates.
I love the bedding suggestions I’ve been receiving and will definitely be taking my inspiration from them x

They will bring you joy if you love them and I think especially paired with some of the green patterns Beverly posted would be a really bright and fun room to walk into every day. Don't be afraid to post things you're considering or trying out for more feedback. Put on your armor. Just ignore those who are not helpful.

It certainly could be true, that donning some armor is a good idea if it defends one from honest feedback.

Lets ask everyone please, what their first choice walls, headboard etc would be with all the absolutely fabulous, darling, fresh and cheery, suggestions above . All of them working so very well with the curtains: ) ?

Try not to chicken out, gals.

How about we just ask the OP? You've given your feedback and she's free to reject it and move beyond that to make the room how SHE wants it, WITH the curtains if she desires.

It looks like a grasscloth on the accent wall. I agree that the wallpaper and room color do not coordinate with the drapes. I love the drapes, but you would need to change so much in the room. What kind of feel do you want? Start off there and be willing to do a lot of changing if its opposite of what you have.

And then you could stick with the spring green or edge towards white bedding with Dark green coverlet the color of the darker leaves in your curtains.

Hello. I suggest using art and decor to support the curtains rather than bedding. At the same time, repeat a very small number of colors that are on the curtains. That is, select bedding under the bed/headboard and walls - calm, monochromatic, without texture. And in general, create an eclectic space. I recommend replacing the curtain rod with a matte black one.
Of course, it is important to see all the items that already exist in order to give specific advice and make a collage. Eclecticism is a difficult style, every detail is too important.

And it’s important to understand how bold/daring your room and you yourself can be))
