Can I fix sticky polyurethane floorboards?

We have old hardwood floors in the kitchen and dining area. The floor in the kitchen is super sticky to the point where sweeping is useless because the dust and crumbs literally get stuck to the floor. I have tried all the poly-safe cleaners, scrubbing with water, vinegar or detergent. Nothing works and i am now thinking the finish has been damaged or is deteriorating.

Refinishing the floors is not an option right now so my question is: Can i sand back and wax the area affected? or does anyone else have a suggestion to fixing the stick? Will i ever be able to walk in my kitchen without sticking to the floor? thanks for your time!

This is a dilemma that really needs onsite advice/help….it is probably not a good idea to try to only treat certain spots…i would worry about altering the finish/color…. without an understanding of what the problem is…any mistake could create even more problems…a good pro …onsite…..would be able to offer the best advice on how to proceed…

You need a deep clean and recoat. May take a couple of cleaning to remove all the residue built up. Contact a local Bona certified craftsman for a deep clean. You will need a "remover, rinse and recoat process". It's about $2-3 per square feet.

It sounds like you have used something on the floor to clean with and it has caused a lot of build up. Are you using a mop when you scrub? Might be time, for a good hands and knees type of scrubbing, with a scrub brush Do sections at a time, so you can wipe it all dry. Its not good to leave water on hardwood flooring.

Icky Orange glo or other stuff residue. Ammonia and a white T shirt. Wipe until there is no more gunk coming off.
