48” induction range PLUS wall ovens

Hi! We are starting our kitchen reno process. We love the look of the big ranges and found a 48” induction range by Fulgor Milano (we don’t have a gas). My husband thinks we need a full size wall oven as well so we are looking at getting a wolf full side oven with a speed oven/microwave above it. Does this seem excessive? We will basically have 4 ovens— although the range is a double with one big and one small side and the speed oven is microwave size. See pic of the range. Let me know if you have another suggestion. Thanks!

Without knowing your family size, cooking habits, etc, it’s hard to judge whether this is excessive. If you go with a wall oven, I would suggest a combination steam oven. We have a 48” range but use our Miele combi-steam oven far more than the 2 range ovens. It does things a regular oven and a microwave can’t so it would at least not be totally redundant.

Have you considered going with a rangetop instead of a range? Fulgor produces a 48 inch wide induction range top and then you could go with double ovens as a separate installation. This would leave you less vulnerable should one or the other go on the fritz. Remember, no matter what the brand, induction appliances are some of the most technologically complex appliances you can have in the home. Some can be reliable for sometime, but when they break, getting them repaired, is not like fixing an old gas, powered stove for example.

There are also combi-microwave ovens. Lets you replace the standalone microwave, toaster oven, and air fryer.

Your money, your space, your choice. But yes, I think 4 is overkill. Cooktop/rangetop suggestion to cut down on the number of ovens is a good one.

Yes overkill. When will you be using all those ovens at the same time? We have a 48 inch range and no wall oven and a dinky microwave. We cook a lot and never needed anymore ovens than what we have even when we cooked for 10 people during the holidays.

I would check what the actual measurements are of the small oven on the range. Some 48 inches ranges have dinky small ovens. I have a Blue Star and the small oven fits a 1/2 sheet pan.

For Thanksgiving, we had both Wolf ovens under the 48” range, the combi-steam oven, a countertop convection oven (usually is stored in the basement) and the microwave in simultaneous use. It can be done! 😂 However, I think if you did the range top, a large wall oven, a combi-steam oven and a microwave with additional functions you would be all set! You could keep a countertop oven in storage if you think you might need it.

Blueskysunnyday, would you mind going into detail about your four oven feast? It would be helpful to know for people who might need similar capacity. What size turkey? How many people were you feeding? What other things were you cooking & what quantity? Thanks so much. Hope your guests left delighted & stuffed to the gills!

The main reason we are considering the 48” induction range is really for aesthetics, as a focal point in the kitchen…. An expensive focal point lol. The rangetop is another option but then at that point I’m thinking maybe to just do a 36” (Wolf) induction cooktop….

The fact that you’re asking if it’s excessive suggests that it’s more than you anticipate using. You most certainly don’t ”need” all that. But we grow into what we have. After 4+ years of only the lower of my double ovens working, I finally replaced it. I didn’t “need” a second full oven but now that I’ve got two I often find myself using them simultaneously. That’s in addition to my Breville countertop oven which gets used all the time. And in addition to the microwave. All get used. I had a thought to get an Advantium type MW when I had to replace it, cost kept me from doing it more than fear of never using it. Personally I look at your plan as essentially having two regular ovens, a microwave and storage for cast iron pans which can be used as an oven in a pinch. The small oven’s main roll being to complete the look. Not excessivre.

Now if you came here panicked about how you are to fit all this in limited space or how to afford it, that’d be a different story. Then a reality check would be in order. If neither of those are the case and you're in love with the Fulgot, then why not. My money says the lower oven gets used most for oven duty, upper for MW duty, range ovens barely but they’ll look good,

"at that point I’m thinking maybe to just do a 36” (Wolf) induction cooktop…."

One owner commented that she needed a flashlight to see the borders of the Wolf cooktop's induction elements. Note also that the control panel is in the corner and there is not a control for each induction element. The predecessor (controls were updated) to the GE Profile PHP9036DTBB was a CR top-rated 36" cooktop.

Sure thing, @awm03 ! Dinner was for 10. We cooked a 15 lb turkey in our Miele CSO XL. When that was resting, we reheated sliced cajun turkey that someone else brought in the CSO. In the two range ovens, we cooked scalloped potatoes, mac and cheese, dressing/stuffing, candied sweet potatoes, and soubise (kind of like an onion and cheese casserole -- my favorite). Most of those were in 9x13 dishes. At the last minute, we removed things from the larger oven and roasted and then broiled a green bean dish on a large sheet pan. In the countertop oven, we heated up ham on sweet potato biscuits as an appetizer before dinner and then the rolls to serve with dinner. In the microwave, we were heating stock for the dressing/stuffing and melting butter, etc. On the stovetop, we had gravy. Straight out of the fridge came salad stuff and homemade cranberry sauce. Dessert was pecan pie, pumpkin roll cake, sweet potato pie and a purchased birthday cake with ice cream. Everyone was definitely stuffed!

Thanks so much, blueskysunnyday, that's helpful to see how you use your equipment. Yum! I can see why your guests would want to come to your house for Thanksgiving :)

OP already stated they want the range for aesthetics not so much that they need all those ovens. And for one or two days a year that they may or may not use all ovens it seems like overkill. But if the space and the money for all those appliances is there go for it.

I have had a 48 inch range in 2 houses over 15 years. They are just about aesthetics. Cooktops with wall ovens are so much better (the house before the last 15 years). Mind you, we built the last 2 houses so it was our own doing.

That wasn't the question of course.

I think it is all a waste and a new buyer is going to scratch their heads. It is something that is really hard to change and may require a full remodel.
