Your measurements are off somewhere because the wall is wider than the print. I think it will look nice there just don't hang it too high.

Thanks for pointing out my typo. The painting is 20"w and the wall is 23"w.

It's too tight! Just not a really pretty proportion. I'd find a better spot for it. Or turn it.

Put it somewhere that best suits it- it's always better than jamming to a spot not well suited

That poor plant looks like it needs more light. I’d recommend moving it or it won’t be long for this world.

Grow lights can be wonderful. Many years ago, i had a large, potted hibiscus tree. I brought the tree inside in the fall/winter - and I quickly realized that this tree needed a ton of sun. I got a grow light, and the hibiscus flowers 🌺 bloomed all winter long.

As far as the painting: It is really striking. I think it would be nice to find a place to showcase it to full effect. In that spot, imo, it sort of looks like it is just squeezed in there as a filler type thing.

I think it will be fine. It gives a balance to the dark sofas. But, if it were my house I would place matching plants on both shelves if they are the same size. Maybe those tall spikey things, mother -in-laws tongue? Is that ok to say? I don't remember the actual name. If the sofas were not black I would say no, too contrasty with no balance.

That plant was a gift 45 years ago. It's a tropical/rain forest night blooming cerus.

It has lived in soil and straight water, through cats and kids knocking it over. It's been top-heavy, broken, repotted, trimmed, separated and re-gifted several times. I have two in water now. It would bloom with some sunlight but it thrives, nonetheless.

There's no question that the painting is disproportionate to the actual wall but I'm looking at color and the overall space. For the dark painting, this is one of better lit areas of the house. I'll probably hang it, and if it doesn't set well after a few days, the "hook" will be there for something more proportiate. Chairs for the upper room are scheduled for delivery Friday - which could change everything.

I have no issues with art hung on walls almost the same size but the plant does not look happy so move it . You will need to be careful about the height you hang it. I like art hung when viewed where the center of the pice is at eye level so think about where you will view usually.

I don’t know what happened to @elcieg’comment about 2 battery operated sconces there, instead. But I thought that was brilliant. Even one sconce there of a good proportion. It is a very logical place for a sconce and frames the room entry nicely. The light of the sconce can lead the way!

I think it would look great! Consider moving the plant to the other side of the stairway.

I'm trying to get that candle holder to vibe with your art.

I would give myself a Christmas present and take the first painting to a framing store, get it matted and framed and place it where it can be admired. With the right mat and frame that painting would be a highlight of your home.

@Paul F. the candleholder is for the holidays. You placed a mirror where I was unsure but ”marked” for a 42” round mirror. You cemented that for me, TY.

@RedRyder She was hung opposite the chairs (there are 2) though I could seea wide mat and we do have bigger spaces to fill.

I figured the angel was for the holidays... I still like my blue candle holder there though.
