Use some blue painters' tape and tape a 90" piece about 6" above the sofa (centered) and then try different heights with tape to find a height appealing to your eye. Usually the center of the art should be at eye level

Lots of things that can be done to decorate the space ... art, collections, sculptural pieces, etc.

A large piece in a large room, should be placed higher than just 6" above the sofa. Some of these decorating "rules" are not one size fits all and need to be fine tuned for each individual space.

So-this is my brother’s place in Florida and I’m trying to help him decorate. He loves this picture that I’m posting and I thought he needed to go more with an abstract. What do you guys think?

I would personally also go for a big piece that is abstract but if he loves this piece he should get it. He has blue throw pillows and I can see some blue in the rug also so it will tie in well together. Love the blue but not so sure about the wave. I would probably go for something like this.

You mentioned your brother loves the one he chose; what does he think about abstracts in general? If open, then once he sees a few and compares, his decision will be easier.

I think the shades and how the art resonates (vs just being an abstract) is more important. I could see softer colors, no matter the content. Perhaps look for something that feels modern, but not too abstract. Esty has a lot of choices and most come in various sizes. The key is to reflect his tastes and personality and the art choice (and accessories) can say so much.

Yes, you can select a large canvas for the wall (GreatBigCanvas.com is a source) or you can select multiples of framed items or even 'found objects' for your wall.

I'd select a tall planter and boost the height of your tree so the proportion is better suited to the room.

Whatever you select for the living area will have to play nice with what you select for the dining area.

I like oversized canvas. I would bring some light in dark corner as well making it brighter.

Suggest taping out the size on the wall or better yet, cut and tape kraft paper. Its size is as important than the content.

I wouldn’t coordinate in the dining room, instead look to complement it, to create visual separation and more interest.
