That is a fairly small chandelier, my first thought was to find a smaller space like a powder bath... That said if I'm tasked to only put it in this space it would go in the breakfast room. I would also add shades to block the glare from exposed bulbs, and a dimmer. Crystal to me is too hard to maintain in a kitchen over the island, something simpler there like a lantern type would be fine. They don't have to match. Is this an existing house or new construction?

Nook for sure. The style for your new kitchen lights should reflect on the style of the kitchen overall, and maybe incorporate brass to complement the chandelier, but otherwise they can be their own thing within reason. Don't get something too ornate that will attempt to compete. It'll lose. :)

The beauty of a crystal chandelier (or at least part of the beauty) is that it is an entity unto itself and its style doesn't have to be copied onto other fixtures.

I'd begin by replacing the plastic candle sleeves & cleaning the chandelier thoroughly. IMO your kitchen is too large for this small chandelier. You could place it in the nook with the table.

Pretty! I grew up in a 1910s farmhouse, and there was a light like this over the dining table. I agree with the others about placing it in the nook and replacing the sleeves. Shades could be nice, but when I started looking for images of a light like this, most don't use shades. Definitely a dimmer; I hope all your lighting is on a dimmer. Another thing you could try is using a modern-looking bulb to juxtapose the antique light.

You need task lighting at the island. This light is not task lighting.

Fun light. Nook for sure. Easier to keep clean away from cooking grease, it will get lost in the bigger space, and it is a sweet statement piece in the nook. I love vintage chandileirs and lighting and have them all over my home. It can be a challenge to find new lighting that seamlessly goes with the old but it can be done for sure. I have had good luck with Visual Comfort Thomas O Brian fixtures.

In the nook, no way in a working area where it would get dirty.

I had one similar a little larger in my 1926 bungalow - dining room. How I hated to clean it, even though it looked so pretty when I was finished.

I did put on little slip on shades occasionally for something whimsical, then would tire of them or tire of fussing with them trying to make sure all were identically straight and take them off again.

If you love it, use it. Just don't try to use it for a working task light, it's not meant for that.

If considering a room other than your kitchen and not a powder room, is your bedroom a possibility? A light you love could be charming in more than your kitchen. Just don't place over a tub, it won't meet code....

I would put the chandelier in the nook and change the candle sleeves to white rather than the current colors.

I think in the nook since not a task light which is what is needed above an island. I agree the sleeves need changing too. I have no idea what the style of the kitchen is bit IMO an island needs lighting above it that actually lights the surface so pots lights inan 8' ceiling maybe but any higher you need that layer of lighting above the island . get something simple to do the job but not compete with the light yo love. BTW the buls shown to be modern are not but the candelabra bulbs you have can be replaced with LEDs if needed.

Using this fixture in a kitchen really seems to look more “eclectic”… “ interesting”…with it hanging over very rustic tables….for the contrast…as demonstrated in some of the pics…think it a tougher sell in an all white modern setting

I just a fluffy makeup blush brish to dust the crystals on my antique dining room light. It was easy and had many more drops than yours.

It's in a kitchen now and not filthy. Therefore, we can assume Laura knows the fixture doesn't get too bad for her in the kitchen. Laura also said it casts good light so I wouldn't second guess her and say it does not.

I still like it in the nook.

It is unlikely that just a brush cleaning will be sufficient ….in any situation where there will be cooking…the spray cleaner will remove all film from cooking residue..without wiping..(which can damage the fixture and loosen the crystals)..just spray with cleaner…thoroughly…and let it drip dry…

Ohh i love it! I would definitely hang it in the nook and enjoy it - I think it’s touches like these that give our homes personality and prevent the ”I bought everything from Wayfair” look -

FWIW I’ll be hanging my vintage tole chandy in a new DR next year - I‘m a fan of having a few older pieces in every room
