Help! Just bought a home looking to update the outside and bring some life back.

The brick and siding are staying as they are in good shape and to keep within the budget of $5 thousand. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Nice big house. You will get lots of suggestions for colors. My inclination would be 1) lose all the shutters on windows and doors. Frame windows with wider trim. 2) brighter/lighter entry area. 3) I like the large house numbers, keep that idea even if you change colors and/or materials 4) new outside lights to work with new aesthetic. Have fun.

Love the brick not the siding color the shutters or the windows . We need to know what your budget is for sure . I always love this color for siding with brick but we need a lot more info from you as to your style and wishes for the extrior. Are you planning interior changes? If so they often have an effect on the exterior so some thought needs to go into this new home . The advice often offered here is wait to see how the house functions inside for you and when hat is figured out deal with that first .I see you started anotehr post here on the kitchen and IMO wait to paint anything in there until you have lied in that space too. OOPS I think that was another house

Thank you for the feedback! We are aiming to keep the rennovations to around $5k (with us doing the work as we are pretty handy). We have made updates to the living room and kitchen already to work for the way we live and we have taken inspiration from nature with colors in the green, brown and blue palatte. looking to redo the landscaping as well to remove the bushes and make it low maintence and environmentally friendly.

Looks like a great home, congratulations! I like the urbane bronze color idea for the garage. I would remove the shutters, and look into bulkier window trim as mentioned. Work on entryway to lighten and brighten. Then landscaping can really enhance the space.

I think a grayish blue would look good with your brick. I show it using SW Blustery Sky. Use a darker color for the shutters, so they stand out but not such a stark difference between them and the siding color. Use a very light blue for the door so it lighters the porch up. I'd remove the shutters that flank the front doors and add a new light fixture and vertical house numbers.

Straighten the house numbers. Have the shutters match in size and color unless you actually close them in a storm. Paint the right side of the facade to match the brick or paint the brick and the siding to match. Paint the front door in a lighter color so it can be seen: the entry area is just too dark. All the shutters should be the same color. The hedge along the left front needs a good trim.

With your budget your best option is paint. Paint the house in charcoal with all trim and shutters in white including trim on windows. A black door, a large sconce and large black numbers would complete the look. Test the colour on the house before going ahead with the entire project. Then work on landscaping when you budget allows...

Paint the shutters on the lower siding the same color as the shutters on the brick and yellow siding.

Start saving to paint the yellow siding a different color

Trim the hedge in the front to below the height of the window sills and eliminate the taller shrub by cutting it shorter if possible

Add plantings to the right of the entrance

Get some proper house numbers and install them directly on the siding

Once you install mulch your $5k will be used up.
