Wainscoting with new baseboard

I just finished wainscoting in my formal dining room about a year ago. We’re about to redo the floors and put in bigger baseboard (3.5” height currently to 4.5” height) on the entire 1st floor. If we do that in this room too - the wainscoting won’t be centered vertically anymore. Do I have to redo the wainscoting or does anyone have a better idea?

In your second picture, the baseboard and top trim die into a doorway casing. Could you trim out all the entrances accordingly? Then leave the baseboards as is in this room, change them in the rest of the house, with the vertical casing work easing the transitions.

It’s not installed yet so I cannot say if I like it or not. It is a good idea to consider leaving this room as is and just change the rest of the house. I’ll have to think about that.

Another option is to replace the trim at the top of the wainscoting with taller trim to balance the taller baseboards.

@Jeffery Ehman, since you didn't notice the change @Paul F. made in the photos, I'd say it probably won't be noticed IRL. BTW, your floors are lovey now. What are you going to change on the floors?
