If you're close to the coast, both are available in coastal versions.

The Marvin is a much nicer. The 400 has vinyl jambliners . The Andersen A-Series is more comparable.

Thank you for the input, especially to the pros! New to windows, and trying to figure out the primary benefits of upgrading from vinyl to wood.

One of our main goals is implementing as much character as possible into the new build. I gravitate towards wood from an aesthetic standpoint but wonder if that element can be made up in other areas like trim/millwork.

Any thoughts on the Anderson A-series vs Marvin Ultimate?

Ultimate is generally regarded as the more premium and higher end product.

Maevin offers a fiberglass model with a wood interior. Elevate Collection Windows and Doors | Marvin A quality product that will save you money.

We used a mix of ultimate and elevate, both with wood interior. We used ultimate in the front. Part of the house is angled so you can't see both types of windows at the same time. I didn't want screens on the front, so those are the ultimate push-out casement with retractable screens. All the windows have hurricane/impact glass for southwest FL code.

Best thing is to look at the windows in person. The Elevate looks very different than the Ultima. Marvin also suggests going to a single hung for a more airtight window.

@toddinmn you are right, we are planning on seeing them in person and figure that (and price, ultimately) will be our determining factor. I overlooked the option of single hung for the Marvin Ultimate line. We are less worried about the convenience of cleaning and moreso finding a wood window that adds some character to new build that hopefully fits into ten budget. I’ll be curious to see if there is any price difference between the Marvin Ultimate single hung and double hung.

Marvin and Andersen also have great options for there exterior applied casings which is something to consider. Keep in mind the interior finish is an option that add cost. I am a fan of factory finished interiors as I like to install turn key products and keep things such as this out of the hands of painters. I’m trying to keep my answers to the questions asked and to the info provided but here you are. I always have concerns when homeowner come here . I’ve specified Marvin windows for 50 years with no problems.
Andersen less reliable due to selling thru Home Depot.
