Best finish for black walnut mantle?

I'm working on a black walnut mantle, it's absolutely beautiful and I got it for a steal. But I was wondering, what finish would be best on it? The fireplace is gas, so no soot, but still might have to be concerned about heat. I've used Osmo on the past and been impressed, but not sure if it's right for this. Thoughts?
