There are so many other lighting methods that will make your room feel cozy and welcoming.

Instead of washing the room in overhead light, plan your furniture layout then plan the lighting to meet the needs of the room. For example, you want to hang art over the fireplace, fill bookcases on either side of the fireplace and have a game table in the corner by the screen porch. You consider an art light above the frame on the fireplace, LED lighting at the sides of the bookcases, and a floor lamp with a big arc or a swagged hanging light fixture over the table. You may want wall sconces, which give light where your eye likes it most.

Check out cable lighting it is a great choice for really high ceulings and in cases like yours. I usually use Tech Lighting. I use it even to put light into spaces where a cord just is not practical. You will need to be able to install it where thwere is a good strong lace to attach it but this is the idea Usully corners are best to start it a good electrician can make this happen
