What do I do with this wall?

I am stumped and cannot figure out what to put against this giant wall that seems to dwarf our massive 77" TV... the span is deceiving, the wall span is a wopping 200"! I'm really struggling with what sort of furniture to put here, or how to arrange anything, since it doesn't seem like anything is big enough. Also would REALLY appreciate color suggestions for the furniture that will sit along that wall as I'm stumped how to tie the rest of the room (couch and rug) together.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Yes, I very crudely tried to remove the piece of furniture that was underneath the TV so as not to distract from the photo, since that piece won't be living there long term. It's funny you should mention the Arhaus cabinet, I have looked at it but am possibly overthinking things as I convinced myself that the color wasn't right. In truth, I am very terrible with color choices, I realize there is an art to choosing colors in a room, but I don't have that talent. Thus the reason for asking about color recommendations.

Something like this long, low console and shelf looks like it would work well with your decor. I think your TV should be mounted lower, so I’ve posted a visual to help you find the right height.

I would put a case piece under the TV.

I think you could also use a couple chairs over there.

But I don't think that particular wall needs anything else because of the architecture.

Personally I don't like rooms lit only from the ceiling, I think the room could use some lamps, but lamps seem to be relatively unpopular in a lot of interiors right now.

What a fantastic room and beautiful rug.

Your TV is much too high. Lower it and place under it an extremely long statement piece bench. You can stack coffee table books on it, put interesting doo-dads on it, or just leave it plain. That plus your lovely huge plant is more than enough for this wall.

Here are some inspiration pics of rooms that remind me of yours. Their colors are serene neutrals and earth tones that I think work well. Natural wood tones, black, white, amber all work well in these spaces.

Your wall just needs some tweaking

    TV mounted too high

    The cabinet below too short

    Larger tree for a corner.

I think you can order this tree on Amazon

I remodeled a 1970's home with generic arches into a 30's Mediterranean with moroccan accents. Those arches, with simple changes totally transform the space and sometimes no other changes are necessary.

I went nuts on this place but it sure was fun.

Wow Paul, your pic is great. I’m swooning over the tile staircase. Beautiful job.

I love the classic simplicity of the OP's rounded arches. This is such a beautiful space, and as stated above, needs only minor tweaks to be made perfect. I agree with Pal's suggestion to consider lamps, which warm a space and "bring down" a high ceiling to make for a more intimate space.

There are TV mounts that are adjustable, so that you can pull your TV downward for viewing and upward for storage.

Yes, but it would look much better mounted lower with a cabinet under it.

@Kendrah Thanks, It had been a bachelor pad for actor Jeff Conaway in the early 80's. I bought it for lot value, it was in such terrible shape. It was a god awful 1970's Swiss chalet looking interior with some 20ft walls totally mirrored.

You can see the upper floor has 3 arches mocked up with styrofoam board taped to the walls. and arches downstairs underway. I kid you not I found that Mica shade light fixture in the garbage!

Anyway, I know the power of the exotic arch. I lived there 5 years and sold it to Charlize Theron during brokers open.

The TV is mounted too high. from floor to the MIDDLE,

"a 70-inch TV should be roughly 67 inches from the floor to the center of the TV."

you need a media console that is longer than the tv. (tv should be 2/3rds the size of console)

Just an example to show you proprtion and proper height:

do you like this style? and the plant needs to be moved further right to fit the console

this is the Livingston media console. nice match w/your style.

I also like this other one that was posted. the arch style works w/the home. You just have to make sure this is long enough for your tv

    86" wayfair, Keerra

Darker color, 74" (the tv should be 4-6" above the top)

    Esparguy 74", wayfair

next one, on sale, Thompkins 78"

or I like this style too. they have diff colors Wilma Milano

    Chapman, 80" :

floating wood console is also a nice idea

Some end tables and lamps is one way to start getting other lighting sources. Or, pull the couch off the wall and get a long (inexpensive) console behind it to hold two lamps. (Let us know if the couch is staying.)

Another chair might also help fill the seating area while being useful. We can’t see if you have any kind of table in the sectional area. Can you post another photo from the other side?

Your rug is stunning. It works well with your new space. The whole area is beautiful too (though I get the “overwhelmed” reaction. I had the same feeling when I first went into empty my great room.)

The rug was a recent purchase and makes me very happy to know that I am on the right track with it. The couch was bought a few years ago when we bought our previous house... Long story short, it was bought with the old house in mind and I was hoping to be able to reuse it in this one and save several thousand dollars. In an ideal world I could swap it out for the "perfect" (whatever that is) couch, but am trying to get some life out of this relatively new couch that will have to endure through my kids' younger, more messy years until we can buy our "forever" couch. Here is a photo from another angle. There have been a few comments about adding accent chairs, which I plan on doing, but not until I've decided on and bought the piece(s) that will go under the TV. Bear in mind that piece of furniture under the TV is NOT staying.

Personally i do not like arches mixed with horinzontal lines ie arched headboard and then someone puts rectangular art above it. Long shot here, what about a large cabinet with an arch thar houses the TV and when closed looks good as well? Might have to be custom.

I think it needs some lamps and the tv lowered and the sofa looks too far back. I personally don't like anything around the tv, so I disagree with books and do-dads and plants around it. I like for my tv to have no distractions and don't have a cabinet under mine. I have my wall that it is on darker from the rest of the room.

Keeping the couch during your kids’ “messy years” is smart. Can you stand under the arched doorway and shoot a photo from that side?

Adding pillows that being in the colors in the (fabulous) rug may be one way to get the room to look more cohesive.

I also doubt any of us thought the item under the tv was staying…. 😉

The least expensive solution is to paint the wall dark brown like the shutters. Then the tv blends in and the area becomes more relaxed, imo. Other dark coverings can be used, like vertical slats or other creative material use for texture. Then you jump to a larger tv. Sony X95L mini led Link is 3500. for 85" with new tech coming in May.Link. Sony won't be at CES. Or the LG 97" G2 OLED for 19K BB open box. That compares with projectors at 100K. More large screen tv info coming on Monday. Link.

I'd like the tv lower and possibly to the left a bit for viewing. More things can be added to the right for symmetry.

I would get a large faux tree and place it on the left side of the tv so it will be balanced with the other one. Also, I would mount some interesting objects of art above the tv...perhaps fish, baskets, sailboat to fill in that space.

I like the room. you just need some tweaking.

    Pillows/throw. color/texture/pattern.

    pick some combos like these:

And style them on your sofa like shown in this pic: (also take notice of the poufs and the table)

Then I'd do your room like this: put the fig tree way in that corner, move the sofa back off the rug a bit, I put in 1-2 poufs (leather or loom style is fine) instead of side chairs,,,,

I like this type of console (properly proportioned w/the tv, not nec this exact color. you can go darker or lighter).

I don't care for that wood coffee table. I'd either do something like this tufted ottoman in the pic,

or a round table like any of these

I really like this natural sea grass (or rattan) for some natural texture

again, notice how the pillows/throw is styled, the potted plant (maybe try an ombre type of pot)

and if you ever thought about changing out your window coverings, a woven wood or bamboo blind would look great. (in a darker shade than what's shown here^)

It might be nice to try a round coffee table, along with some poufs and a different console under the TV. Below are a few ideas for you from designs we have done for clients. Perhaps also look at some different, fluffy pillows, to add some color and make the space feel finished.

In case anyone on this thread is wondering what I did, this is the direction I went, for better or worse. I had storage issues that, for our family, justified the purchase of built-in cabinetry. I know that looks of rooms are subjective, just wondering what is the next step I should be taking with this wall and decor to finish the room. Thank you for all your help and input!

Some pillows that pull colors from the rug, and a throw. Check out Etsy for some unique pillows. Many sellers will customize sizes. Maybe some decorative items on the console? (Unless the kids will destroy them.)

Can you move the couch back a bit? The sitting area feels like everyone is trying to be “on the rug”. Having less of the pieces on the rug is okay.

It’s definitely feeling more like a LIVING room.

What happened to the vent (?) or speaker (?) that was just to the right of the doorway and is now behind the cabinet?

It was a built-in subwoofer speaker installed by the previous owners that didn't work/wasn't hooked up. So we pulled out the old equipment and patched the wall before installing the cabinets.
