My home is almost 100 years old and to do recessed baseboards was harder than I would have ever suspected. On a new build I assume it would be a piece of cake provided there is good communication between drywallers and your floor guy. This what mine looks like with my existing door frames.

I did the recessed baseboard in the bathrooms as well... without a shadow line.

That looks really nice. I am leaning on recessing the baseboards and keeping the door casings raised for some savings. It good to see examples from others. Btw - love the stone in your bathroom.

It depends upon how you want to define your house as "modern".

Ask your architect, if you have one. Many times someone wants to build a "modern house", then fills it with materials and details from big box hardware stores, and turns out half-ass.

I love that look in the pic it is clean and very contemporary . I need to see the house and also what you consider very contemporary. This wil cost money for sure , is it worth it only you can answer that.I think from looking at your idea books you do tend to lean modern but how modern only you know how far. I love modern I am a minimalist and if I did not have the husband I have ai would live in a cncrete and glass house he tempers my really cold space . If I was building I would do the trimas you show I love how it looks for sure .I woud either do it all or none .
