Such funny jokes today Paula...unless you did not see the well.

    So many gorgeous G's today!

Like many streakers Gunther's Prize seems a bit unstable but it is lovely.

Gold Standard reverting to a mix of everything.

An oldie but goodie: 'Golden Tiara'.

When I ordered this bare root it was supposed to be 'Raspberry Sundae' and while I have no doubt it came out of batch of TC RS what I in fact received was 'Gooseberry Sundae', the all-green sport of RS.

The flowers are on the darker side and the seed pods are almost black.

    'Grand Tiara'

    'Grand Total'

'Guacamole' in a unique setting. My wife had an old lo-rise chair (perhaps 10" off the floor) with a cane seat that was starting to deteriorate and we decided we'd repurpose it as garden decor. In this picture the seat is out, the pot the Guac is in is sitting on the stump of an old tree and since the plant seemed to like where it was eventually the chair was done away with and the plant was given a new home.

Here it is a few years later in its new pot, with a sizeable division to the right of it.

Where it is situated it sees full sun from about 0900 to 1400 and it's happy as a clam, rewarding us every year with ample bloom and fragrance.

As you can see from the pips in early April last year, it is showing clear signs of "fairy ring" but by the time the leaves unfurl you'd never know there's stuff missing in the middle. The pot is a bit ungainly but I will probably wrestle with it early spring and empty the pot, refresh the medium and divide the plant in the process.

    'Guardian Angel'

Here we have GA with 'Fortunei Albopicta' showcasing their seasonally fading variegation.

Beth, I love your Grand Tiara! I must have that!!

Gary, your GE is beautiful! I tried that and it died at the end of the season……oh well

Shadow, your Guardian Angel is awesome!

Saija, love your small hostas in G and your Gingee.

Laurie, every time I see your Gemstone I want one. I tried to get it last year and couldn’t find one available. I planted Glad Rags last August and hope it comes up like yours this spring.

Pieter, that Gooseberry Sundae is stunning with those flowers, petioles and seed pods. Sooo beautifully dark!

Pieter, was posting my comments same time you were posting your second post. Love that creative use of a chair as a planter!

    Here are my Gs:

Pieter, that Gooseberry Sundae is stunning with those flowers, petioles and seed pods. Sooo beautifully dark!

Debra, I initially was a little disappointed with not having the original but that all changed when I saw the flowers and the pods! The supplier did provide me with a free replacement which hasn't done near as well as this one, oh well...

Debra it is a shame you could not source Gemstone. I would highly recommend it to everyone. You and oursteelers need it lol! GL Blue Bananas is wonderful. I do like a heavily corrugated leaf.

Pieter disappointing not to get what you ordered but I agree that the pets & flowers are very nice.

Paula..who knew that people could be delivered along with a pizza? 😀..

bummer..the Jaguars and Colts are in the same boat 😢..

    Debra

Paula, I had to chuckle for each one of the jokes!

Ginsu Knife (It's taken a long time to get it to look good. It's been so long that everything has now grown underneath it! I will have to rescue it this season. I think it might look good in a pot.

    Golden Meadows

Golden Sculpture (photo taken in September) This hosta is viridescent.

    Goodness Gracious

    Continuing . . .

    Grand Prize

Guardian Angel (A bit disappointed in the coloring, but I have two others from different sources. My plan is to divide this one in the spring and find homes for them. This spot in my garden is too precious and another hosta will have a chance to prove itself! LOL

Great Expectations (I can always tell which hosta are my favorite by how many pictures I take of them.)

    Gypsy Rose

Newhostalady, I think your Guardian Angel is quite pretty

debra..thanks!..I’m thrilled that Great Expectations is doing well..it’s been a problem for some..

newhostalady..you made me laugh..I take more pictures of my favorites too!..I couldn’t find pics of Golden Tiara or Gold Standard..not my favorites 😂..

And you made me chuckle nicholsworth, when you said you couldn't find pictures of GT and GS (not your favorites). I can see that you perfectly understand what I am talking about! LOL

So when someone asks "what are your hosta favorites?" and we get that kind of overwhelmed feeling (how can I possibly choose?)----go and look at your pictures! It can be a clue!

I agree, the pictures tell all….. think I have more pics of GL Blue Banana than any other.

    debra

Love that GL Blue Banana of yours Debra! That would be one I would be very tempted to get if it were available in Canada! And that's saying a lot since my garden is full and needs thinning out badly!

Oh, it’s too bad it’s not available in Canada…. Is it the shipping? Or the issue of crossing the border?

    debra

    last modified: 2 years ago

Every plant that goes through the border has to be inspected. Last I heard the certificate was $100, and I would assume that it would be more now. So it would be expensive to purchase just a few hosta plants. You need to buy quite a bit to make it worthwile. And then, of course, there would be the shipping. So I get to see all the beautiful hosta that I can't get here!

Yes and that is not even counting the exchange on the dollar. That makes for very costly plants!

Yay! Laurie still has electricity! I hope the storm didn't hit as hard as the predictions.

Yay is right Lisa! We got mostly snow mixed with a a bit of freezing rain and then ice pellets. It was not pleasant weather but thank goodness the freezing rain was limited. I hope everyone else fared as well as I did.

We are going to get walloped starting tomorrow morning into late Saturday. Predicting 6-10 by me with possibility of 10-15 depending on storm track. tj will get more than me as he is further from the lake. Then the bitter cold temps will hit…… single digit F during the day and minus degree F at night with double digits with the “real feel.” 😱😱😱😱
Don’t mind the snow so much, but those below 0 F temperatures are just too much! 🥶🥶🥶

    debra

Laurie..glad you’re safe and warm!..winter is just not fun..

debra..stay safe and warm during the days ahead..we had a nice day today but we have single digits coming..I hate it..

All these low temperatures make me nervous for the outside animals.

I have a stray cat that I think is a feral, that I feed who won't go into the heated cat house I put out there. Instead he stays under the table where it can't be that warm.

And there's a small deer that must have been born late in fall that I hope will be all right.

Everyone, do your best to stay warm!

    Glory Hallelujah

Debra we are getting it again starting tonight too. It will look pretty, it is just a shame that snow happens in the cold. Stay warm!

Thanks Ann! Yes every year that goes by I hate the cold more and more. I used to go cross country skiing on crazy terrain at least 3 times a week. Now I just want to stay in!

Lisa I hope the stray relents and goes into the heated cat house. I had a couple of late season deer last year that made it through (causing me to spend a small fortune on Bobbex) so I hope yours does too. I feel for them all.

utog great to see you catching up with your beauties!

I found 2 more G’s! Grecian Vase is the chartreuse one in center of first photo (with Kiwi Full Monty Summer Squall and corner of Glory Hallelujah) and Guacamole in foreground of 2nd photo (among Stained Glass, Last Dance, and Secret Love).

    Giantland Skylight Bowl - just another ADG lookalike . . . except bigger leaves . . . and taller . . . and more corrugated . . . and more blue . . . but just like ADG

Too yellow to be chartreuse and too chartreuse to be yellow and a nice white edge. Yeah, another favorite - who knew? Gila River:

OK, I'm serious this time. Gilt by Association is one of my absolute favorite Hosta . . . well at least in the top 10 (or so) You will be seeing more of him and that's the real leaf color ranging from yellow to green not a camera trick of shadows (but maybe a tricky sun exposure of the plant).

Well Golden Falls (Thanks Hosta_Maker) has performed exceptionally well at the top of this steep slope which is one of my more brutal locations for Hosta, but at least its relatively free from tree roots. Maybe I can move an eye or two to a better (more sun) spot this year.

Hmmm, now I’m wondering why I don’t have Gilt by Association!! What a looker!

    steve..you made me laugh..

your comment about Giantland Skylight Bowl was “just like ADG”..😂😂😂

I do see the differences you mentioned 👍..

Steve, did I miss sumpin’?? What’s the name of the hosta in the second picture?

    debra

Golden Meadows for first 2, and Ginsu Knife

    last modified: 2 years ago

Debra - Sorry, it's Gila River. And I really like Golden Meadows and Ginsu Knife, but apparently not enough for me to get pics of them this year. UToG those are very nice examples that show what they have to offer.

And since you asked for it . . . what? You didn't? Well maybe you should have. Just another reason for feeling Gilty. It doesn't really look that white (parchment) just - what's the word - glare from the sun . . .
