Not sure if painting a lighter color will make space look larger unless you paint them same color as wall so they disappear. Not suggesting that as don’t think that would create a good look combined with center TV console. I wonder about putting a light color on the inside back of each piece in the upper half with open shelves? Maybe the color of base of coffee table & chair cushions? That would make the items on shelves show up instead of disappearing. You could mock that up with cutting paper to size & taping it up. With the eclectic mix of furniture it should look fine. This looks like a comfortable room with lots of natural light.

I like the bookcases, too, though I would place them just a few more inches away from the console. The grouping looks a bit squished. Also, I would leave the tops bare of accessories so it look curated, not cluttered.

I agree with ffpalms about clearing tops & moving away from console. You might need to move the larger plant that’s by window to another spot. For distance, try the amount needed to have the outside edge of each of the pieces side molding line up vertically (visually) So, the combined width of side molding & console would be the space between each bookcase & console. I hope that make sense. I think doing that will accomplish what you want - to make the space look ’more spacious’..

I would try moving bookcases so they’re about 10” from each side wall. Get a wider and lower console that compliments better.

I think your ceiling is really pretty. If you could pick up those wood tones with the rest of your decor, I think that would help tie it all together as well. Agree with the comments above.

I would try putting a wood look or fabric on backs of the bookshelves to tie in the buffet piece. This would lighten things up but not create more colors.

See how repeating the leather color of your sofa in back of cabinets helps the overall look. Repeating accents 3 times is usually a great idea.

Theresa, Your rearrangement looks great! The console & TV having some space around it makes the most difference but clearing off tops of shelf units & the rearrangement of photos & items on the shelves looks really great too. I like the addition of the chair by the guitar. Thanks for coming back to show us what you did.

Thank you, yes, all the difference. The original arrangement on the coffee table was too high but it was a gift…I had my husband cut it down to sit lower and put it on my kitchen table. Definitely nice to move things around and let someone else’s eyes take a look.
