Requires you to plan. It isn't an afterthought delay. Your drain placement, what for drawers, for sinks, for lighting, where they alllll go...is a draw, plan , elevate, decision. Later is too late.

Thank you so much! We are planning for the 4 sconce option. We had contemplated either a middle 3rd mirror or some artwork to break up the space. Your drawings really helped in visualizing this.

Great idea about raising that backsplash. I will talk with the counter guy to see if we have enough to raise that to 8" (or at least 6").

According to several articles...

• The sconces should be 64" from the floor.*
• The horizontal distance between the sconces should be 36" to 40".*
• The mirror should be 4" narrower than the vanity.**
• If the vanity width were 33" then the mirror width would be 29" and the sconces would be 3-1/2" to 5-1/2" from the edges of the mirror.
• The mirror height should be 6" from the top of the vanity and 6" from the ceiling or 120" - 36" - 6" - 6" = 72"**

@jan_moyer…for 4 sconce option, do you prefer three mirrors to one large mirror and sconces are on the mirror? I liked the latter in an inspo pic and that’s been my plan…but we could go with individual mirrors too

Make up in the middle is always your own personal screw job. Why? Because it demands a mirror on the wall behind. What's the big deal? Lets start with the that each sink ALSO demands a mirror..

Wild guess here, and I have no clue why those gfi boxes are where the ARE? Continue with the guessing game:

.... 24 " sink base, plus 24 inch make up area, plus 24 inch sink base shall equal.......tada!!!!!!! 72 inches. Another guess: Maximum 12" drawer and fillers say 15" flanks to the 72 inches......

Four looks quite crowded/cluttered on 102"

Which will mean this:

A. You can mirror the entire width of the vanity, put a single sconce over each drawer base,

and it goes right THRU THE MIRROR.

Wired for four?? I think it looks crowded, even as one solid mirror unbroken

( not the best here, as it would need a match stained trim to vanity, all four sides- this is a good look with a WHITE vanity

B. You can customize a contrasting mirror to a width of 72" and as high as you like, and a sconce over each drawer is in the drywall.

Will anything else look good? No. Because you don't have room for 4 sconces/three mirrors, and you can't slam a sconce in the middle of the make up area. Hate those stupid things

( and it matters not if my guessed dimensions are six inches off. )

Ps...... gfi's have to move from back wall to ONE on the side wall, preferably cut into the splash and turned 45* and one IN the back splash /same thing.

BOTH OF THESE were possible due to drawer and sink center positions

In both cases the sink is flanked by drawer which equals...space to mount

I'm sure there's a fourth sconce out of view...but again- sinks are f.l.a.n.k.e.d by drawer base equals room for sconce

This is false.

• Distance between sink center lines: 33/2 + 24 + 24 + 33/2 = 81"
• Recommended distance between sconces: 36" to 40"
• Mirror width with 37" between sconces: 37 - 2 -2 = 33" (assuming 2" between mirror edge and sconce)
• Distance between left and right mirror center lines with 33" mirrors: 33/2 + 2 + 2 + 33 + 2 + 2 + 33/2 = 74"

74" < 81" so you CAN have three mirrors and four sconces.

To optimize the appearance, adjust the (a) mirror widths and (b) distance between the edge of a mirror and its adjacent sconce so the distance between the center lines of the left and right mirrors = 81".

I agree with Jan that for Shazia, there is not sufficient room for 4 sconces. Two would look much better with one large mirror in between. I like to have the outlets above the backsplash where possible, instead of in the backsplash.

This is not correct as demonstrated by the formulas above. One simply has to use the formula:

• M x 2 = 81 - D x 4 where M is the mirror width and D is the distance from the edge of mirror and the sconce.

Examples:

• If mirror width = 33" then distance between mirror edges and sconces is 3-3/4"
• If mirror width = 30" then distance between mirror edges and sconces is 5-1/4"

@wdccruise thanks, I should have clarified that even though Shazia technically could do 4 sconces, I'm not a fan of the look because it seems a bit crowded.

We are moving the outlets 90 degrees and into the backsplash.

I am debating between the option of four skinny sconces ON mirror…or two sconces flanking one mirror as Jan showed above.

Some considerations…. I will get a small, portable LED makeup mirror to actually do my makeup

Could two sconces plus our current lighting (4 cans plus a chandelier) be enough light for the bathroom? (Side note - I answered this question when I went to go take pics…just the two canned lights we have already is PLENTY of light. At this point the sconces are layering light and decorative)

Is there any skinny sconce that could not look as cluttered if we go with four?

We have 100” to work with. TIA!

Thank you Jan Moyer for the suggestion to raise our backsplash from 4" to 8". It looks so nice! Thought I'd share a progress picture after the counters were installed. I'll try to remember to post a final picture with the 4 sconces (and 3 mirrors) once complete.

Omg. I had to come back to this post bc our counters finally went in (don’t ask) and we decided to go for one mirror option with 2 sconces or even no sconces. @jan_moyer advice is always always always clutch.

So coming back here to ask, can we do an LED mirror with sconces? I’ve been trying to find a picture that does it gracefully but nothing very elegant coming up. Could the option be a 72” backlit LED mirror with sconces? Or do we go for pretty?

DH wants LED, and I like the defogging aspect.

If LED plus sconces don’t look good, we can just do an 85” or 96” LED mirror and call it a day.

How many inches from RIGHT wall!!! TO CENTER sink hole righ sink

How many inches wall to each wired box left right , glass to wire, and right drywall to right side wire

I'd trim a FULL mirror, all four sides, match the cabinet stain, match the rail width on cabinetry

Add a third sconce, and go THRU the mirror

You may have to move the two in place wires up a bit- can't tell from splash, but you seem to be 60" from floor- I drew that, but I'd go UP a bit if these V.C

Our wiring is at 5’ high so when you say go up a bit, do you mean like 4”?

Also, I went with the gorgeous pulls from the kitchen since I couldn’t find any others that rivaled it at Ferguson. So that decision is done. I’m getting better at being decisive 😂

You don't NEED to go through the mirror

You CAN have a custom mirror, framed made. You are going to have to match the stain on vanity , or get lucky online

What are the pulls, and WHY are you at Fergusons for those when you be online, order samples, From Top Knobs. ?Honey bronze and tehn google same om amazon or Wayfair for samples.

The sconces are in the SAME spots from glass and wall. Whether you go up? Depends the sconce you order? The height of the window casing. Did you order that one? Use the specs, as I did. Tape a line at the window top........or?

You can still do this - outside the framed mirror ON the drywall

This option is much easier actually. So we’re trimming out a frame for the wood (I have the stain still) and then that frame encases the sconces plus mirror

Also random and can’t into the whole story without crying but we ordered delta vero tub faucets instead sink and past return window 😭. So if you have a delta sink faucet you love, I’m all ears. DH told me to not tell him the cost of the sunk sinks and to take it the grave. 😂

Bathroom will be finished by next week and then I’m done!!! GC went through the house punch list already so just waiting on these final pieces and we are doneeeeeeeeeee 😍

@JAN MOYER hiiiiiii! Are there possible budget friendly options of the VC utopia sconces you shared? I found these Elk Houghton ones I like. I know the finish well since we did the Elk Caroline chandelier in our foyer and it's so so so gorgeous!
