First step is to get rid of the central fixture in the ceiling and replace it with 6 4” recessed cans 24” from the outside walls. This puts the light on the counters not behind you. It also demphasizes the low ceilings. A pendant over the sink can be pretty and just needs to blend with the pendant over the table- ie match finish and overall style. I don’t like fixtures with exposed bulbs due to the glare especially at a table.

I am having the popcorn removed and the ceiling repainted, so I can arrange to have new lighting done too. I was worried about that central fixture because it used to be an ugly linear fluorescent light. I have a pendant and chandelier in mind that match. I do not like exposed bulbs either. Do you have an example of a chandelier that you think would match well?

you haven't mentioned your style. I agree no bare bulbs, but style please.

Traditional or farmhouse. Something that looks classic, not cliche and too trendy. I like warmth and texture, not shiny metal.

Oh so sorry! NO GRAY at all! It is the computer program. It is an all white kitchen. I do dislike the lighting in the program. Sorry about that!

Yes, I am extending the cabinets to the ceiling, and finishing with molding so no catching dust. The program defaulted to 9 ft ceilings so that is why there is a gap.

I am also going to do trim on both sides of the refrigerator and do a counter-depth fridge. How far from the wall should the fridge fit to open the door? I was going to add 1.5 inches of trim on the wall side.

You must check the specs for the fridge. Or you can move the fridge far left, and all else slides right

You don't design from a computer program, it is all specs, feet and inches. It's appliance driven: )

A drawing with all the wall to wall inches, and openings and windows? That helps someone help you before a mistake occurs.

I do not think I will be switching the appliances around because I am doing this renovation on a budget and doing a lot of it on my own. I think the specs said it would need a 4-inch clearance, so I should have room for that in that space, just need more trim to fill in the gaps. I do have the exact measurements of the kitchen and that's what I made the model off of. All measurements in the program match those in the actual kitchen...so no mistakes will be made I am hoping!

IMO you need more than one light fixture in the kitchen so pots lights then a nice pendant over the peninsula maybe. Tha dining space is very small so how many sets do you need there . evne a tiny round table with 4 chairs is all that will fit . If you do not need an eat in kitchen then extend the kitchen to be claser to the patio door making the kitchen a bit bigger and then just a couple of nice chairs and a table between them for coffee or a glass of wine with a friend .

I am doing a dining bench against the window and a 3x5 table. It will seat 6 and enough room to walk around. I am going to get the recessed lighting and keep the pendant over the sink. I will see about over the peninsula too, but that might be too much.
