Can the cabinets be painted? Can you negotiate with the contractor if he admits he made a mistake?

the gentleman is custom cabinet designer that owns the business. he supllied samples and colors and measured the layout for all the new cabinets being put in. we sat with he and deciced on the stlye and color and he noted it at that time. he even supplied us with the cabinets door that has the same stlye and color so we can go find a matching countertop. he went as far as usikg a virtual reality headset with kitchen software se we

can see what it will all looks when complete.

once the cabinets were delivered we all noticed it was the wrong color..

as the designer/owner of the cabinet comp looked at his contract it he saw the color was not correct. what he daid was ”well you signed it,to bad”. the cabinet designer/ owner even had the wrong sddres on the package. it was the in the same development just wrong nimber. i know he wasnt doing any other jobs in the area.

what angers me is you hire a professional to do a job that he is specifically trained and qualified for and he is also the owner. we hire him to do what we dont know how or what to do. we hired him so we did order the wrong size tpye of color be we are clueless. no he failed to veri his own work and now he throws this back in out faces and blames up.

this cabinets cannot be painted they have distressed groves and the types

of wood came out making the paint have a slighy color tint. now we have a color that is plain and cannot be painted because it have tge same distreesed look

This is why PROFESSIONALS carry insurance.....for their mistakes. Make him correct HIS mistake.

Houssoan, hate, yes, its not the color the room was suppose to be. we picked cherry with whitewash finish. now they are white, plain white. the room has no color contour. the cabinets match the walls the floor and it looks like a white sterile hospital room. if the cabinets were inexpensive and a only a couple we could live with it. when you pay over 65k for cabinets, it should be the ones you ordered. this is a one time remodel i will live with until im desd and buried. we had to pick a new countertop floor color and other accents to match. the slightiest color change can alter the whole room.

Cherry cabinets and White cabinets are not even remotely the same. When i built, I ran around with a cabinet sample and have a million pictures with it next to countertop material, flooring, backsplashes, etc etc. Do you have pictures?

Ugh. I ache for you. You are not alone. I have found that I can usually do the business side of a job much better than what I pay other people tens of thousands of dollars to do. I get blamed for their mistakes all of the time.

Let's figure out where you are at: Do you have a leg to stand on because afterall, you did sign for the wrong color? If you have a chance, fight it all the way.

If you don't have a chance, post pic of your kitchen, of your desired cabinet and of what you got. Have you already purchased countertop and other materials or had you only selected them so far but not put anything down? They are many ways to make a sterile white kitchen warm and cozy and perhaps even something you like in the end.

The cherry wood underneath gave the whitewash a rusty reddish hint. we have a huge copper dinner table and were going to get a copper sink. when the patina isnt cleaned off the table it gives it a lived in rustic look. i have both cabinets and will post a pick of them together.

no we just spent the last week trying to find a new countertop to blend in eveything. its bad enough we live in a construction zone (thats fine, we knew that was going to happen). almost starting from scratch on a project we spent months playing and prepping only to have to replan on only two weeks is a real screw you over deal and the guy wiping his hands and walking away is criminal.

Offer him 20K for his cabinets. He'll counter at 30K, you'll pay 5K to get them refinished and have a nice discount for your trouble.

It's easy to know what happened. You had discussed the kitchen detail by detail, all agreed then the contract was written up. At this point many buyers give a cursory glance before signing. Most assume the paperwork matches all the conversations. The "too bad you signed" it out is just wrong on every level, ethically. It will depend on your state's codes and how much you are willing to pay to fight it legally unfortunately.

Pics of your table and sink would be helpful too. At least you have some really interesting showstopper sounding pieces to work with.

If the designer is willing to rectify the mistake, agree on a timeline and process for replacing the cabinets.
