I'd replace the fan with a dramatic light fixture.

framed art on both sides of the window (two sq. frames stacked on either side), colorful patterned simple ring hung drapery panels on the windows.

If you want you could paint the arch window wall a color or you could add art on one or both sides

there's a lot you can do. can you DIY? willing to get new table and chairs? the fan should go and be replaced w/a light. last thing you want is a fan blowing around food products and grease.

    I'd get a new blind

new light and position it over the new table/chairs

    rug

    art for the wall

and probably paint the lower half of that room w/a contrasting color

    just a few suggestions:

The area needs color. How about painting the window wall an accent color? Or, at least a colorful shade?

Upgrading the kitchen table and chairs in a darker wood, would certainly help.

I agree with the others…a ceiling fan has no place in a kitchen, or above the dining table. Fan blades collect dust and grease, which will fly off when the fan is in use.

You have a great kitchen. I’d up the pretty factor with a chandelier, larger rug, wallpaper below the chair rail, and cafe curtains at the beautiful window. I love the idea of art on either side of the window, but the mock-up art is NOT it.

there are no clues as to your preferences. All I can see is a wintery scene out the window ... so I would not remove the blinds if they are giving a bit of insulation value / replacing blinds/ window treatments is expensive. An arch window is a nice opportunity and the room has scale. Narrow down what you like...color....classic .....fun....eclectic....lean/ spare or embellished..???? any clues?? Focus on the arched window wall...below are colors /contrasts / things you can do with that detail.

    .

I like the built ins to play up the wall....you could layer a roman shade or valance on top of the blinds......warm caramel walls contrast nicely w all the white ...stays classic / not fussy.

Start with a rug and fun chandelier. Then consider colorful artwork or wallpaper on the back wall.

Paint the painting the whole area in a pretty pastel..will turn the room into the coziest spot in your home…i always prefer pale aqua or pale golden yellow..as they are colors from the prettiest skies in summer and spring..this creates a gathering space that everyone is drawn to…

I like this with a black jute rug to cover up a good portion of that vinyl flooring. (any chance of redoing that?)

It looks like you might need some curtains, artwork, a chandelier, and a rug, along with more chairs for the table. Take a look at just two of the dining room designs we have done for our clients, included below.

You have a beautiful kitchen/breakfast nook to work with, not to mention loads of great ideas from fellow Houzzers. In addition to those suggestions, you might consider upping the drama of the arched window and higher ceiling in breakfast area by painting the far wall a contrasting color. If you do so, I would remove chair rail on that wall. The photo will give you a general idea.

The most fabulous light fixture you can find, and two tall, slim plants on either side of the window.

Definitely paint the cabinets white (or a pastel color) and get white appliances. Traditional is in now - people are sick and tired of ugly greys and blacks and thankfully they are going out of style - yay! Black is the ugliest color for any place in the house except for handles on pans or in tiles on floor in checkered pattern. Put in real wood floors, or maybe VCT (tile that is hardy and does not scratch like softer vinyl) with colors in checks like black and white checks or another color with white checks - coat in gloss clear coat. Getting the cabinets and appliances normal looking will go a long way to making it look nice.

Hello are there any updates it's been a while since we heard from you?

As others have suggested, colorful art flanking the arched window and above the sideboard and new pendant light fixture over the table instead of the fan. Add a colorful area rug under the table and chairs. I like the simplicity and the wood-tone of the existing table and chairs. Easy fix!

Wow. You have such a nice home! In my (unprofessional) opinion, you need to brighten the kitchen and darken the dining room for a cohesive space. I recommend bringing attention to that fabulous window by adding depth and texture, perhaps with rattan shades and a dark metal curtain rod that expands the length of the wall with flanking curtains that won’t block the view and/or light. Alternatively, I like Marci’s idea of flanking the window with two trees in baskets, as artwork might look lost or jammed in the space. I would also show off your amazing ceiling with a pendant light that lends some contrast, perhaps rattan again. Next, I would change out the table for a darker one that pairs well with the kitchen cabinets, and bring in some color with upholstered chairs. Lastly, I would consider some things for the kitchen to tie the two spaces together: a complementary flush mount ceiling fixture, and a movable kitchen island to break up the kitchen floor expanse. And for the finishing touches, jute rugs and a couple plants in colorful matching pots for each room :)

The window is big andcatching. Play it up and put in reeded blinds that can raise and lower with filtered light, if sunlight becomes a problem. Keep all of them up, if you can, to enjoy the outdoor view, brighten the space and make the room look larger. No need for full drapes that can overpower the scale of the room and can get dirty with cooking odors . No painted accent walls that are trendy and dated, but one warm consistent, continuous paint color to enlarge the space and flow into the kitchen. If you have the budget, full length vertical shiplap like the green paneled wall suggested above or some type of batten molding would be fantastic. Or a simpler batten molding below the chair rail. You need large vertical art on both sides of the window to mirror the height. The frames need to be tall and large, but the art inside can be small with large mats. The existing table needs a painted color or a dark base to continue the cabinet dark look. Finish the top of the table in medium tone wood stain for warmth. A rug will add texture and warmth, but nothing too dark as you have enough dark with the cabinets. The neutral patterned vintage look rug will contrast to a darker table base. Stick to neutrals that compliment your floor tile. You need additional chairs around the table. I'd add an upholstered bench with a straight skirt on the side of the table closest to the sink, so you won't have a chair obstructing your view. Add nailheads for detail. The bar stools at the counter need to be low or backless to keep the view open. Add a large, airy light fixture with arms. A green plant in a bowl style planter and chunky candlesticks will dress your table and add texture and life. This is all dependent or whether your decor in the house is traditional or transitional, but it should work with most styles. Good luck! You have a lovely space to work with and lots of potential.
