Input needed on mirror height.

Hi all!

This is for our primary bathroom. Although we love the windows in the bathroom, it's been a challenge trying to narrow down our mirror choice. We used Photoshop to create some mock-ups, some of which included individual mirrors of various shapes, but we think that a single large mirror might be best given the windows. We're trying to decide how far up to take the mirror.

Please feel free to provide your opinions, suggestions, etc. Thanks!

since the above window is off centered in the sink area, I would go with two mirrors, centered over sinks and a sconce in the middle

The position of those sconces is a terrible mistake. I'd switch to a light bar mounted through a one piece mirror that extends across both sinks.

We tried doing what you recommended and this is what it looked like. The issue is the window trim on the right side. The distance between the center of the sink to the wall is 15", but the trim would make it difficult to center the mirror and also fit the sconce. I've spent many hours trying to figure this out. The two sconces between the two mirrors looks weird to me. The only thing I can think of at this point is buying a multi light sconce and place it between two mirrors. I really love the ones that I bought though.

Anyway, different variations we came up with.

Have you considered having the lamps mounted on top of a single large mirror? You'd get the electrical installed and then the glass company would cut the mirror.

Beverly, I'm not a fan of light bars. The vanity (not including the backsplash sides) is 74" wide.

You've given me an idea though. How about this?

You just don't have room for side sconces on the outside edges. Do they sell a double version of the ones you bought that you could put in the middle? Or do a light bar like Beverly suggested.

We are having the sconces mounted on the mirror. Unfortunately, they don't have a double version of these sconces.

I love the use of sconces in bathrooms, but you didn't execute a plan where sconces can be used. You eliminated the concept of sconces when you installed two sinks that far apart.

I hope you we not planning to use brass fixtures. I don't think that all hardware has to match, but when the items are close like yours I don't think mixing metals is the right direction.

You can simply install downlights over the mirror

Thanks, Beverly. Yeah, I see how that's an issue now. We wanted to have more space between the sinks. Too late now. The ceiling in that part of the bathroom is vaulted, so downlights are not an option. Can lights maybe? I was hoping to have the electrician come out to install the boxes, but that will have to wait until I figure this out.

Beth, fantastic ideas and suggestions!!! I wanted sconces, but some decisions became a matter of funtionality. Then it came time to position the lighting... oops! The ceilings are high and sloped, but I think you've given me a lot to think about here. I really love several of the mock-ups. Thank you so very much!

What about going with a backlit mirror? Then you'd have no need for sconces or a light bar. See the second image for the backlit mirror idea:
