Anyone grow Brother Stefan?

This one looks really beautiful to me. It's a Proven Winners plant. Hummingbird Farm clematis nursery says Proven Winners is not producing it anymore. If any of you grow it, how does it do?

Where did yours come from?

I think I saw this one at Lowe's hardware a few years ago. I was stunned with its beauty but passed it up to save money. Then I went back to get it and it was gone. I look for it every spring.

No luck. It was a strong blue , close to true blue, with lighter bar.

The official name of this clematis is 'Stefan Franczak' but was sold in the US under the marketing name of Brother Stefan. Stefan Franczak was a Polish Jesuit monk (hence Brother Stefan) who was famous for the introduction of numerous (67) varieties of clematis into popular culture.

I googled its original name and found a few online souces but unfortunately they’re all in Europe :(

I have to teach myself not to want what I can't have. There are other pretty ones in that color range.

Are you sure its Brother Stefan? I have a hosta by that name. The breeder named several hostas after her family members.

No....this is the Clematis forum and we were only discussing clematis. Only one poster referred to a hosta - by mistake.
