Baja shelf too deep. What option do we have?

The pool contractor made the baja shelf 19" deep and we only wanted 15" deep maximum. The contractor says he can add more cement and tile to make the area more shallow but we are concerned this will be a problem structurally later or may lead to cracking in the new pool finish. Any suggestions? Diana

Ours is 18” deep, or more, depending on how high we keep the waterline. I love the deeper depth, so do little kids and dogs(haha). Is the 15” depth so important for you?

Thank you so much for responding! I'm so glad to hear you are happy with the 18" depth and that children like it too. I was worried it would be too deep for little ones and I was also hoping I could use a plastic chair to sit and read in that area. Have you ever tried a chair on your Baja and if so, how did it work?
